So... what do people do in online? (Friend code included)

I'm always seeing posts on Twitter and stuff from people playing with their friends online. I forgot to cancel my Nintendo Online free trial, so I figure I might as well make the most of it by playing online with people. I've been wanting to try it out for a long time now, but I have to wonder... what do you do online?

Maybe someone with more experience playing online can tell me, but when I visited a personal friend of mine, all we did was just kind of run around. Granted, our islands were still very underdeveloped by the point, but still. What do veteran players do to make online play entertaining to them? What do I do to get people to want to visit me or have me visit them? How can I make Animal Crossing friends that will last?

I'd rather someone show me than tell me, so leave a reply if you want to show a new online-er the ropes. Please reply or message me if you want to schedule a time when we can visit.

I play tag with people, where one person has their net out and everyone runs from them. Whoever gets hit with the net is 'it', etc. Ive also seen people set up some musical chairs which is cool.
