A pokemon can only say their name. (Except for some) So why does Pikachu need a change name? I don't think thats possible. (Except for full language talking pokemon)

Where did you hear this anyway?

From what I understand, people in Hong Kong who speak Cantonese are against the name change because the new name sounds the same in Mandarin, but very different in Cantonese. I think it would be like if they changed the English name to Picachu (pai-kachu) because that's how you would say pica mouse in English. Or change the "chu" part to something more English-y. Or if they changed Pachirisu's name because "risu" means squirrel in Japanese, but not in English.

they're not changing the english name right? if so, then it doesnt matter. i dont really care if they change it's other language name but its a big no no if they're gonna change the english name.

Pikachu should just die already.

why? you are so evil

The pronunciation is staying the same yeah? The translation is interesting, but TPCi said Pikachu still sounds like Pikachu.

Not in Cantonese, where it now sounds like Beikajao or something, I don't remember exactly. The reason people are complaining is because they feel that their culture is being marginalized, or in the worst case eradicated. The name change has domestic political connotations.
