I don't know if trees actually (perfect) cherry blossom. We'll have to wait for spring (or someone will have to TT to see if that happens).
A good idea to make a japanese town could be customizing your house's exterior. Zen door, fence, exterior and mailbox will do. It gives a classic Japan feeling.
Oh, and paths with blossoms and/or bamboo.

I have a stone tablet in my town and I think it complements my zen theme quite nicely. Also, only plain trees cherry blossom, I've visited some dream towns in the past who had saved during this time and their fruit trees weren't cherry blossom.
These are the only two areas in my town lacking main paths and whatnot and I imo they look quite pretty with random bushes thrown in here and there and the special tree stumps (sorry for taking on my phone and excuse the starter char, I'm house plot resetting xD)
