I don't know if anyone really remembers me making a thread on this a long time ago, but in New Leaf I had planned to thoroughly test out different flower combinations to see what combinations produced what flower/hybrid, then post my results in a new thread.

Sadly, I did not really finish that experiment due to real life issues kicking in, but I did make some progress. I won't really post any of the findings, but let me just say I got some pretty unexpected results. This leads me to the point of this thread:

I want to do the same with New Horizons, but this time finish it. I'm going to make a thorough guide on New Horizon's hybrids, or at least attempt to. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to tackle this, and it will definitely take me a long time considering how many different flower types there will be in New Horizons. I might do one type of flower at a time, I don't know... I got 21 days to think about it.

If I decide to go the one type at a time route, I will likely start with the new flowers, being windflowers, mums and hyacinths since those will likely be the more popular choices.

So, there you have it. I'm gonna drive myself insane for you guys. Woo.

You could always form a coalition of board members, and have each focus on a different flower variety. I know I'll be experimenting heavily with flowers, and wouldn't mind helping.

I love breeding hybrids and only ever have hybrids in my towns.

I've typed up my own process from New Leaf on how to get the more difficult hybrids, like blue roses and purple pansies which I did from scratch, so I'll definately be diving right in to that too, with the new breeds! :)

I'm still trying to make blue roses in NL. I finally got around to breeding "special" red roses from purple and orange, and now have 4 red in a diamond pattern. I plucked an orange and black this morning...no blue yet.

I'm happy to help too. I'm sure there will be a lot of us here trying to find out the secrets to this game once it comes out.

People are more than welcome to post their findings on the thread I will likely create when the new forum goes up closer to release. However, when it comes to large projects like this, I'm mostly in it for the self satisfaction of discovering odd results. Also, doing it mostly myself means I can trust results more. I'm sure many people will be honest in their findings, but mistakes can happen and some bad eggs could also rear their head up and post incorrect results on purpose.

If someone does post results, I will likely double check them myself just to make sure its correct if I'm not already testing it.

this is a cool idea! i’ll be keeping an eye out for your thread/guide to see what findings you discover c:

Hope it meets everyone's expectations. I unfortunately lost all my results from the testing I did in New Leaf, but one combination I do remember, though I am not sure if this is accurate as its from memory, but I've seen purple tulips spawn from pink tulips and yellow tulips.

We've been so accustomed to combinations that we've found over the years that we know works consistently, we've never really tested obscure combinations.

Totally understand.

I followed so many overly lengthy guides until I found what actually worked.

I knew exactly what worked because I'd gone through the process myself.

I wouldn't steer anyone in the wrong direction, because I've read some really tedious stuff in guides, that turned out to be completely wrong, so I'd never lead anyone up the garden path. (Had to say that. :) )

I'm definitely gonna be trying for hybrids too, so I'll send any data I get your way if you want.

i think you should totally go for it!
like someone else said, it would definitely be easier with other people helping. it'll also get the guide done quicker!
however, i think you should find a small group of people for "offical" results, if you know what i mean. maybe people you could trust? maybe you could make applications on google forms? i don't know haha.
good luck, and if you ever do something like that, i'd love to help!
can't wait to see the guide <3

Found this chart of available flowers on Reddit. It's a compiled graphic of all the species we've seen so far.

Ugh I wish there were more variety in blue and purple flowers... it’s always been this way. But I want a blue and purple (and white) town! Thanks for the link though :)

At least we got three new flower types, and each of them have a blue and purple variant! It's a start. Well, except blue chrysanthemum since those are genetically modified.

This isn't the end-all-be-all. These are only what Nintendo has willingly shown us.

I think I'll start with the Anemone. Those things are gorgeous.

I'm likely going to start with hyacinths myself, and probably chrysanthemums as well.
