Something stupid happen

On the start-up screen where you choose which character you want to play as and where you can watch a villager in your town walk around, I saw a sign that meant a new villager was moving in. I got all excited because I haven't had a new villager in a long time. So I load up my game and I go to the area where the sign was, I even ignored my mailbox. I get there and there's no sign. Then I look all around for the sign and it's not there.

This game is depressing sometimes.

It only showed a possibility of it happening. Since the town wasn't saved on said possibility, you wound up wih the chance of no new villager yet instead. You should visit the "controlling where houses are placed" tread for details.
