The Nintendo treehouse footage revealed that for the first time we can adjust the game so that the seasons line up accurately for us southern hemisphere folks. I, for one, feel SEEN and cannot wait to make my character swelter in December like I have to. :p But I was curious about what other people would do, since some people might like the escapism of different seasons! So what does everyone think they'll do?

Hiya fellow southern hemisphere-ian! When I heard about this feature I was so excited to be able to play in the same season as where I live, and also that means I get to celebrate my birthday in spring time in the real world as well as in NH! However, when the game does come out I might feel a bit sad that I won't be able to celebrate the game in the same season as with everyone else, but I guess that will just make my island a bit different to everyone else's.

Fellow Southern Hemisphere dweller. I think it's cool they're adding this feature as I've heard it requested a lot over the years. But I do have questions about implementation, especially as regards holidays and special events (presuming that a lot of those return). Stuff like the Harvest Festival - will that be tied to whenever you have Autumn in your game, or will it be tied to the month, meaning you'll have it happening at the wrong time of year in the southern hemisphere. Same for Toy Day - will that be in summer if you have your game set to Southern Hemisphere? How will that work when it's set up as a winter celebration?

What about building snow people? There will be far fewer people playing in the Southern Hemisphere, so if features like snowman bingo returns it will be a lot harder to find other towns to visit etc.

I am not sure whether I'll set my island to southern or northern hemisphere, I want a lot more details about how it's going to work before I make that decision.

Hello! :) I have to agree with that, I'm really hoping we don't end up feeling left out. But you're right, we'll definitely stand out among the many northern hemisphere players!

Hello there! :) Ooh yeah, that's true, they're definitely interesting things to wonder about. Having said that, there are already timing differences with some festivals in different versions of New Leaf (eg Weeding Day is in April in NA/European versions of the game, but in September in the Japanese version) so hopefully they can still make it work! They kind of skipped over this feature in the publicity they just did, so I hope they discuss it a bit more between now and March!

Yes, hopefully as the time draws closer we?ll get more details about how it will work. But I think this plus other things we?ve seen, eg freedom to place items outside, choosing villager plots shows that Nintendo have really listened to a lot of what fans want from the new game, which is pretty encouraging. So hopefully they?ll implement this feature well.

I'm in Australia so I'm very pleased that I'll potentially be celebrating Christmas in the summer...lol.

I live in the northern sphere, but I would definitely like to try out the southern hemisphere to see what the experience is like! Celebrating my birthday in the winter, playing Toy Day in sweltering conditions... I wonder what Jingle would have to say about that lol.

it's cool that the seasons will be more accurate to our hemisphere, but I really like the whole "Christmas in winter" thing so I'll probably stick with the status quo.

I'm in Australia too, and I agree! At last our in-game holidays can look like our actual holidays.

Oooh interesting, I hadn't even thought about whether northern hemisphere folks would want to try out our seasonal rotation!! That definitely sounds like a fun new experience!

Completely understandable, it does make the game experience different for us!

Hahaha thank you so much!! :) No, it isn't, but I've heard from a few friends that they thought the same thing! So I'm super excited to see how this changes the game experience of animal crossing. I've been wanting this for a long time!

Yep, agree with this. The snow seems to last forever sometimes!
