Is this really necessary? I'm not trying to make a huge deal out of this or anything, but a lot of times I finish a post and see I goofed and end up having to fix it so I don't look like an idiot lol

youre not really spending bells or being penalized-- the bells earned are based on post length (among other things); so when you edit, the system removes your earned bells and recalculates from scratch what bells youre getting for that post (as the edited version may be shorter or longer). refresh the page after youve edited ,and youll likely see your bell count back to the amount you had earned originally unless you made big additions/subtractions.

I know that but you're still losing the bells you've earned. I'm saying no bells should be lost at all.

I don't see what you're trying to say. That it should just all add up infinitely, opening it to abuse?

Say you write a post and earn 5TBT for it, then edit it to add in something you missed, increasing your character count. You will lose 5TBT then earn, say, 6TBT. So overall you've gained 1TBT by editing it.

If you remove stuff in your edit, reducing the character count, you will lose TBT since your original post but will still have earned some overall.

Wait if you say I earn 6tbt for the post where is the 6 coming from?

It's just a number I pulled out the air. The point is, you get however many forum Bells depending on how long your post is. If you add something to it, you will earn Bells and if you remove something from it you will lose Bells SINCE YOUR LAST EDIT.

So, if you have 100TBT, write a post, earn 5TBT from it then remove some words from that post, you're still bound to have over 100TBT at the end of the day.

this would just lead to abuse then from people typing up walls of text and then editing to their much shorter actual post

if you edit and post is about the same length (say just fixing small typos or whatever), then you won't really be losing anything, but if you edit it to be much smaller or larger then you'll lose/gain based on that which keeps it fair for everyone and prevents rampant abuse

and the only bells lost would be what you previously got from the post itself. you should never go below what you had before you made the post

That's not what happens to me, I post something (earn 1.5tbt) than go back and mearly change a word to fix spelling and I end up spending the money I earn to edit that same post (spend 1.5tbt) at least that's what my transaction says.

- - - Post Merge - - -

^See? Fixed a word up on the post above and I spent the bells I earned making that post.

yeah but then the next thing should be (earn 1.5 tbt) because you get credited for the newly edited post in its entirety after you're done making it.

you're not really losing anything- you're simply being credited according to the bells "value" of the final edited post. so once you edit, the credit for the original post is wiped clean off your balance, and then you get a new credit based on the value of the edited post. it could be the same amount, or less, or more, depending on whether the edited post is short or longer than the original post.

Or previous.

Post #6 on here is recorded in my transaction log as follows:
20:10 Earned 4.4 Bells
20:11 Earned 4.4 Bells
20:11 Spent 4.4 Bells

Nox, I've highlighted the Bells from editing it in blue and as you'll see they cancel out so I've not lost or gained anything.

I just looked at my transaction log- i can see where the confusion may come in:

I assumed the order of transaction listings would be:

original credit; (deduct original credit); new credit for edited post.

but it looks like the log puts them in this order instead:

original credit; new credit for edited post; (deduct original credit).

take a peek again at your log with this information and see if it makes more sense.

Oooooh okay I see it now. XP Thanks for clearing that up, Kind of confusing tbh

When ever I edit my post I saw that I spent some TBT. When I refresh the page I didn't lose that many TBT because when I edit things sometimes I do a typo.

Well that really cleared up a lot of things for me, I was always scared to correct typos since I may loose some tbt from doing so lol.

I didn't even know TBT count was changed from editing, but that seems a bit OTT to me. The system sounds about as complicated as real money. o_O

I didn't know you got bells for posting on Bell Tree HQ. I didn't need to post this, but I'm getting TBT for doing so. ;)

I think it's just the trading pages that don't give Bells.

The only issue with this board giving Bells is that you could get rich just by asking loads of questions, lol.
