I am at a complete loss.

Yesterday I accidentally spilled my cup of Mellow Yellow onto my Switch. I quickly grabbed the console and rushed to the kitchen to dry it off, but it was still leaking liquid out of the side when I tapped it against my hand. The console was on when it happened and appeared to be okay, but I still laid it in a gallon bag full of rice for 30+ hours. I checked it earlier and now it will not power on (even after connecting it to its charger). It's currently resting in some Damp Rid now and I will check it again in a couple days.

Has anyone had anything similar happen? Is there hope for me or am I facing another $300+ charge to replace it with a new one? I bought it from Gamestop but their warranties (which I do not purchase anyway) do not cover physical damage, only faulty systems. And Nintendo claims water/liquid damage is irreparable; I might be able to get lucky if they have enough stock to send a new one, but considering they're mostly sold out in my local stores, I would assume they're a bit high in demand and low in supply, especially due to the pandemic.

I never had such a thing happen, but your best bet may be able to leave it siting in the rice or Damp Rid for some time, which is what you seem to be doing.
I wish you the best of luck.

Yeah you were right to do the rice thing - I’ve had a 3DS that I thought was long gone come back after sitting in rice for like a week. I’ve only dealt with water though, I’d imagine soda is potentially worse because of the stickiness. I’d also refrain from putting it on the charger if you can avoid it- I’m told that’s bad for it when there’s potentially liquid inside. If it doesn’t eventually come back, unfortunately you’ll likely have to get a new one. If you decide to go ahead and do that, I’d keep the old in rice just in case it revives miraculously. So sorry this happened to you. :(
