I really hope Nintendo does implement something like this, along with being able to have to town saved online so you can share a town with friends.
It'd be so cool to have one town that can be shared with friends without having to live in the same house, and even if you do like in the same house, not having to take turns to play Animal Crossing.

This is an amazing idea! My best friend lives in America and it's awful that we cant hang out. Imagine how great it would be if we could share a town online and drop in whenever we want?! And loads of people have relationships like that, particularly long-distance relationships, and it's a market that seriously needs to be tapped

I would probably end up buying a Wii U for the next AC if this was the case. ;o;
I always wanted this since GameCube. I mean I feel like it would only work for GCN, Wii and WiiU. But now I wonder if they'd cut down on the features you can do in mutliplayer, like how online is. That would stink and be stupid and pointless

I think Nintenido should focus on other more gameplay enhancing features first. That would be a pretty nice side feature for family/friend players though. I know a friend of mine would probably love to be able to play in each other's towns as residents (without switching copies which we can't do for reasons).

And when I say split screen I mean down the middle not across. Across would be horrible.

No guys I don't mean split screen for online multiplayer! I mean split screen for 2 people in the same room on one tv, like press start on an extra controller while the person with a game pads playing.
If you have a brother, sister, or friend that likes animals crossing they could just come over and play on your wii u if they didn't have one.

I love this idea! Perhaps that should be an additional feature for the Best Friends List?
This would be a great feature! I used to babysit kids that played AC:CF and whenever one was playing, the other two would get impatient and want to play (Each kid had an hour turn).

Not really an issue with us, i own the 3ds he owns the wii u we swap over when we're bored! And i have 2 acnl's so he can play on the second copy whenever

They did something (kinda) similar in accf, with the ability to visit your friends via ds (I think)
I totally wish you could share a town with another person! You could be doing your daily chores and then be able to see them walking around in your town as well! But, they could live in another state or country and still be able to live in your town. I think that this would be difficult to do, but it could be done by first, creating a town, and then someone could type in the friend code of the person and it would say, "Are you sure you want to move to [town name]?" Then you would have to have the owner of the towns permission.
