After you get the left room built, you can pick up and move your mailbox!!!

You can't drag or rotate it, so you have to be precise placing it

And you can place it in faraway places. My older brother went with the city-style mailbox and put it next to the museum

This is actually pretty nice. At some point it will be full and making a ton of noise, so being able to hide it is great.

Ooh, that is nice. I am going to put my house up in the northwest corner of my island, on the cliffs. Since I'll be hitting the center of town each day, it would be nice to have the mailbox right there. Or at least at the base of the cliff near my villagers. Poor Pete won't have to walk so far.
