Although each fanfic should reach 20 entries, I'm gonna stop for a little while at this point. Tomorrow is my birthday, and I'm not going to write anything about the winter carnival for two days. Another thing: I'm at the half-way mark of my fanfic. While I got most of the contests covered in the first half, the "Friday contest" will be in four entries, and it's in the second half. Now I will begin writing the story of the third night contest at the carnival.
Two hours after the snowballs stopped flying around in the arena, another contest was about to begin. The entire treasure course had a crowd control barrier at the entrance rather than gates since the area isn't walled. Joey was waiting for the animals to come. Goldie, Cookie, Cherry, Portia, Hamlet, Clay, Rodney, and Hamphrey all stood in line when he was about to give the instructions.
"I bet you're tired of waiting so it's time for the next contest," said Joey. "I don't know how long it will take, but hopefully you can finish before sunset. In this valley, you will see an entire course. This is where you will be looking for treasure. There are eight hidden treasure chests. This game is more like a gamble, but we have two points to add to your final score. One of them is based on how good the treasure is. The best one is more likely to win. The other is time. The earlier you finish, the more points you will get. Each one of you will be given a card that will lead you to your destination. On the front is your first clue. It will guide you to your first destination. In each destination, there is a computer you can use to help you find places. You can get more guide cards from the computers. But the back is your code directory. One 3-digit code is given to you. If you put in the wrong code, you won't be able to use the computer. There is more than one right code per computer, but only one right code to a computer per adventure. When you put in a code, it will lead you to a five-question quiz. The answers will always be numbers, as the last question is a mathematical operation with all four of the answers. The answer to the fifth question is the code to the next computer. If you put in the code the computer gave to you to the same computer, it will print out another direction card. You have ten clues before you get to your chest. And one more thing. There are 24 computers in this area, which is why some are shared with others. You know the drill, let the game begin."
All eight contestants were given their cards as the crowd control line was opened for them. Joey closed it after they all got in.
Goldie's adventure was mostly a cave adventure. The first computer was in the gazebo on an island in the middle of a rapid lake. It required crossing the bridge to get in both ways. The second clue lead her the opposite way she entered as she went downhill near a cave. Third clue lead her into the cave. As she went through her adventure, she had to go deeper into the cave, and into an icy one. Then she had to go outside, which was in the depths of the valley, where most of the computers are. It ended in the waterfall cave, which was a two-story set of caves behind a waterfall. The treasure chest was inside the top cave.
Cookie's adventure was primarily in the depths of the valley. It started out at a cliff near a lighthouse. Then she had to go downwards into the valley. Her treasure chest was inside the same lodge Goldie's 7th computer was near.
While most of the computers were in the depths of the valley, Cherry's adventure stayed mostly in the rim or on an upper level of the valley. Even so, she never went into the depths of the valley. Her first clue was in a smaller valley at the top of the course. The treasure chest at the end was near the same cave below the gazebo Goldie first went into, but only in the opposite direction, which was in an igloo.
Portia's adventure started in the same igloo Cherry's treasure chest was found, but it lead her into the same cave Goldie went into. The second, third, and fourth computers were the same ones, but the fifth computer was in another passage from the central cavern. It was a lava chamber. The lava isn't real, but it was heated water like in a spa given a red coloring and a holograph of molten rock over the water. The heat was strong too. She went through the depths of the valley, and the treasure chest was in an ice castle in the valley.
Hamlet's adventure started at a circle of trees at the top of the valley. It ended in an upper cave that was connected to the same cave Goldie first went through. He did go through the icy cavern Goldie went through, but going the opposite direction she was going. He only had to go up in the end.
Clay's adventure started near a lamppost. It ended at the circle of trees Hamlet started at. He never had to go through any caves in his adventure, but he had to go up and down, fluctuating between elevations constantly.
Rodney's adventure started at a treehouse accessible by a bridge. Below the treehouse was the grounds at the depths of the valley. The treasure chest in this adventure can be found from where Cherry started.
Hamphrey's adventure began at a cabin near the stairs to the lower elevations of the valley. Most of the time, he was in the depths of the valley. His treasure chest was actually inside the lighthouse Cookie started at.
As what Joey expected, none got to finish at the same time. Of all the competitors in this contest, Cookie was the first one to finish the contest. Rodney was last. Cherry got to finish in second place as Goldie only came in before Rodney. Cookie's adventure lasted her an hour. Rodney's lasted three hours and 15 minutes.
When all eight contestants brought back the chests, Joey had to open them all. Goldie's chest was empty. Cookie's chest had fake snow, but no treasure hidden. Cherry's had a cabin model that lights up. Portia's had a catapult that fires snowballs. Hamlet found a wooden cup with snowflake patterns carved in. Clay had only gold coins. Rodney's had a winter decoration kit, which was declared the best treasure by Joey. And Hamphrey had snowflake lamps in his chest.
When all of the chests and times were judged, Rodney would've scored better if he finished earlier as Cookie would've scored better if she had a good treasure. Since Goldie had no treasure and finished later than Cookie, she was in last place. Hamphrey's treaure wasn't as good as Cherry's or Rodney's, but he did finish before anyone but Cherry and Cookie. As of results, Cherry won the Winter Treasure Hunt. Hamphrey was runner-up, as Rodney was second runner-up.
In the end, Cherry, Hamphrey, and Rodney all got awards. Cherry got a treasure chest with a bunch of board games as a prize. Plus, she was given a blue ribbon, golden chest trophy, and a chance to participate in Friday's contest. Hamphrey's prizes were a silver chest trophy and a red ribbon, along with an empty treasure chest with keys. Rodney only got a bronze chest trophy and yellow ribbon.
