“Assorted” Collector
So that's three contests written down. If you wanna know, I don't have much with skiing, so I don't know what it's like, but I still put the skiing race in there. This upcoming contest isn't too much like a winter sport or other outside winter activity, but this contest fits the winter theme just like the others.
The entire Skiing Race lasted only an hour due to track size and contestants' skills, so a five-hour break existed in between two contests. Fauna, Fuchsia, and Bruce went back to the hotel lodge outside the carnival to put up their prizes and use their discounts. At 4:50 PM, Celia, Bunnie, Mira, Amelia, Pierce, Doc, O'Hare, and Apollo all stepped in line for the Second Dining Lodge. The First Dining Lodge was Jenny's place to cook, so a second one was built before the carnival opened. Zoey was the last one to show up. When she saw the line, she gave them a speech before she unlocked the door.
"You're in time for the Winter Cook-Off!" said Zoey. "For the next four hours, you will be cooking some food. The ranking will be different in this contest opposed to the others. Each of you will be in teams of 3 rather than 1 against 7 other individuals. Since there are only eight of you, I'll send Brewster to work with one of you teams. In each round, I will give you a bunch of ingredients, and you need to make a nice dish with the ingredients given. Try to be creative if you want to score better. I will be judging by your efforts. The team that does the worst will be disqualified for the rest of the contest. And if Brewster's team makes it in the top two teams, one of the disqualified members has a second chance of being in the contest. But when we get to the last round, every one will be on their own. The last remaining contestants will get awards and rewards, but it depends on how well you do. I'll tell you what to make when you get inside."
Zoey unlocks the lodge door as the eight contestants team up. Bunnie, Pierce, and Apollo were on one team, Doc, Celia, and Amelia are on another, and Mira and O'Hare were on the third team. Brewster joins Mira's team as Zoey begins the first round.
"Your first round is to make an appetizing appetizer," said Zoey. "You will be required to stick with the winter theme. Everyone got different ingredients, so try to make up a good winter-style appetizer. Best team gets one chocolate pie slice each, worst team leaves. Remember, the appetizer must match the theme, must be creative, and not too gross. Let this challenge begin!"
Every team went to their stations. Bunnie's team had mozzarella cheese, fish, broccoli, carrots, and cauliflour. Doc's team had oysters, shrimp, onions, celery, and raddish. Mira's team had fish, squid, herbs, potatoes, and tomatoes. With the ingredients given, they had to cook them with some additional ingredients like oil and the spices. Bunnie's team made the Winter Appetizer Sampler, which were fish sticks, cheese sticks, and cheese covered winter mix. Doc's team made the Fried Painted Shrimp, where they pureed the oyster meat, onions, celery, and raddish into a mix they call "paint". They use the pureed stuff to brush every piece of shrimp rather than use oil to stick the flour onto them. Mira's team made the Calamari-wrapped Fish Strips. Unlike the other teams, they boiled their meat rather than deep fry them. They made a dipping sauce out of the herbs, potatoes, and tomatoes. After the hour is up, they had to take the appetizers to Zoey.
"So teams," said Zoey, "what did you make? Perhaps something so delicious that I can't have enough of? We'll start with you Bunnie."
Zoey takes bites out of the cheese sticks, fish sticks, and winter mix.
"I have to say that your food tastes great, but originality is where you're falling behind. Sorry, but this 20-year old girl in the kitchen isn't pleased by lack of creativity."
Zoey tries the Fried Painted Shrimp.
"The creativity is better, but the food, yuck! I don't know what you did to glue the skin to the shrimp, but this tastes awful! No offense."
The last thing Zoey ate was the Calamari-wrapped Fish Strips. She dipped one into the sauce.
"Okay, this is too much for me to handle. It is obvious that you guys won, even with Brewster on your team. Thanks for serving us Brewster, you can have a chocolate pie slice."
Zoey had a hard time choosing who to kick out first. Doc's team made a dish that grossed her out, but Bunnie's team lacked creativity. Fortunately, Bunnie was saved as Mira and O'Hare wanted her to stay, but Apollo and Pierce had to leave. Bunnie joined Mira's team. Doc's team felt bad for making gross food, but they were saved since they were creative enough and used all ingredients in one unique item.
"Next round is the very important main course!" said Zoey. "This time, you will be given the same ingredients. It depends on how you make the food. The team that does better this round will not only get chocolate pie slices, but you will be able to participate in the final round. You need to make an entree, two sides, and a drink. Ready, set, go!"
Both teams got apples, strawberries, bananas, crabs, carrots, and corn. Doc's team had to improve after the previous round. They made Snow Crab Chowder with corn and crab meat. They made fried apples and cooked carrots as the sides. The drink was a strawberry banana smoothie. Mira's team made crab fingers. The spicy corn and carrot mix was one of the sides as applesauce was the other. They had a strawberry milkshake as their drink and banana bites as an additional side.
Zoey had to judge again. When she had the crab soup, she appreciates of Doc's team. They have improved after one failure of the contest. Mira's team, somehow went downhill. With the spicy carrot and corn mix and banana bites being special, the rest was overdone. It turned out that Mira's team got eliminated.
The last round dissolved Doc's team. Amelia, Doc, and Celia were all on their own. The rules were that they have to make a dessert. The one with the best dessert gets the golden spatula trophy, blue ribbon, a crab cooking kit, and a chance to participate in the Champion Tournament. The second best dessert maker gets the silver spatula trophy with the red ribbon and a tea set. The worst dessert maker gets a bronze spatula trophy and a yellow ribbon.
The ingredients given were strawberries, chocolate, blueberries, and raspberries. As they all cooked, Celia did a mix of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries with chocolate drizzle all round. She also froze it. Doc made chocolate cupcakes with cream and fruits on top. Amelia made chocolate muffins with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries mixed in.
When Zoey had to try each dessert, she was pleased with everyone's! Celia's was the worst since it had the least amount of skill, as Doc's was better for the cupcake based and worse for the top. Amelia was the official winner of the Winter Cook-Off.
