Sorry to ask this, but I'm planning on getting a Switch once they announce the new Animal Crossing release date, except Nintendo has stopped operation in my country. So I'll have to import it from the US and adapt from there.

So, here's my question:

Do I need to plug it into a TV or can I use the hand held mode from day 1? Is there some setting thing that will make me need to have it plugged? I don't have a TV in my room, but I have an all-in-one computer that works as a TV, but the cables and stuff might be too tricky for me...

In short, I'll have to figure out the charger since it'll most likely be 100V and here's 220v,so I'd like at least to ignore the TV thing and use it as if it were a 3DS always and forever. Can I do that?

Thanks!

Yeah, you don't need to plug it in the TV. Not even when you start it up. Handheld works fine. ♥

Thanks, guys! Happy to hear that! :D
I've never owned a console before the 3DS, so I'm only used to play in portable, and wish to keep it this way. :D

You can absolutely use it in handheld mode!

Just a quick note tho, it only needs a hdmi cable to plug into a monitor (that's my setup!) and I think you can use the charging dock just plugged into the wall (or plug the cable into the switch directly!)

and if you're wanting to make your switch a bit cuter, I can't recommend dbrand skins enough!! Absolutely amazing ♡♡

Happy switching!

You can use handheld mode or tabletop mode. I got me a play stand to put my switch on for tabletop mode and I use tabletop and handheld mode but I mostly use tabletop mode because its more comfortable for me to play and I have never plugged my switch into the tv.

Nope don't have to but you could use the dock and to put your switch in while you're not using it :)

If you ever want to try docked mode, it's actually not hard at all - you just open up the back of the dock and connect the charger, then connect it to the monitor via an HDMI cable, and everything you need for that should be included.

But yes, like everyone said, you should be able to play everything in handheld or tabletop mode, without ever connecting it to your monitor.

I only dock mine when I'm charging it. Occasionally I will play Yomawari on the big screen (it's easier for me to hear the monster's coming when the sound is playing on the TV), but I play my other games in hand held mode because I like to lay down or play in bed. It is absolutely not required that you plug it into the TV at all.
