i have a school formal next month (year 10) and i have no clue what to wear, so im calling all the stylists at bell to help give me ideas !
its a.. informal so the clothing is meant to be semi-formal.

so i was thinking of

and the rest is a mystery !!
i have no clue what to do with my hair, and my shoes/accessories/makeup

so help me out!! style me!

**footnotes: im asian, i have tan skin, black hair, 5'4, monolid

I am clueless about fashion, so I can't really help you out, but I just wanted to say THAT DRESS IS GORGEOUS!

I looked up some semi-formal red dresses and this looks pretty fabulous to me. Slay them.

bc you're saying formal rather than prom i'm guessing you're australian or nz? if so i'd say go with ur dress bc yr 10 tends to be pretty casual rather than the kind of full-on sherri hill kind of dresses people wear to yr 12.
(also i think it's really pretty and the colour is GORGEOUS!)

i'm not super keen on the shoes they've styled it with - if you do decide to go black i would maybe go for something a bit more strappy? or thin? i'm not great with shoes ahaha

if your hair can hold a curl maybe some nice soft curls? otherwise i would say wear your hair up - maybe like a fishtail braid or a loose / messy chignon.

i like the makeup the model is wearing - natural with a bit of a smokier eye.

i hope you have an amazing time!!

I don't know if they meet up with the style of the occasion but I'm really digging these super pretty dresses

formals are a uk thing too

honestly i think the original dress is super pretty and laid back, most of the suggestions seem a little too formal if you're wanting to keep it a bit casual. i'd have your hair down to counter the plunging neck line, i like how casual the model has it, she makes it look really laid back. i'd wear some stilettos (black) or something, i think the heels she's wearing look a little bit bulky, stick with something delicate. cause the dress is pretty statement i'd go with some neutral make up but if you're feeling bold you could have a red lip, i think that'd look super pretty!

anyway, hope you have fun!

yeah, i agree with moggie. the original dress would look really nice. i don't think you would have to wear a necklace, just because of that neck thing that the dress already has, but a bracelet or two, and maybe a few rings would look excellent. your hair should be down and slightly curled at the bottom (i do that whenever i have something formal but asian hair curls don't last, but at least you'll look like you've tried ;; ) shoes, black heels, stilettos, whatever you can find. and lastly, i think the makeup the model has on is perfectly fine. yeah that's all i have to say, have fun at your formal!!

yesss thankyou all who suggested and helped out!

Those shoes look pretty! I like the straps, but walking in high heels can be a pain. As for color maybe a silver, since gold I think is too commonly used/a tiny bit more flashy when you are going for a calm, serene, graceful look, not a crazy party on the dance floor girl look. lol

I like the dress you picked, and these shoes would go stunning with them in my opinion ^^

i really think the shoes and dress you picked are perfect for a formal but not too formal . the maroon looks pretty cool toned and black shoes make me think that silver would look nicer than gold . if you're also going to wear accessories i think you can go with just a black purse and maybe silver fake diamond looking studs and a thin silver bracelet to keep the outfit simple and you'll look really nice . i really like the makeup look that the model has , you can do a slightly more intense neutral smokey eye and natural lip color , and if you go that route you can really make your highlighter glow and do a bit of contour and a bit of reddish brown blush somewhat like this

a thin bracelet like this but it obviously doesn't have to be this style haha
a bunch of inspo pics i found on pinterest that you can definitely intensify or make lighter :

i really like the lip color this person is wearing but i'm sure you could find something bolder if you wanted a bold lip or lip stain like the one in the makeup tutorial picture . you can also go for a bold lip color closer to maroon but a bit lighter like the blush color i showed or that is bolder and closer to your dress color ^^^

^highlighter inspo
and basically have more fun with your makeup if you want and it won't look like too much , i think it'll look pretty elegant

silver seems very elegant. my friend has those stringy heels in moss green, they look amazing. i think it's a good twist on normal heels, i mean pain is beauty.

my face is a weird shape so hair that is framed around myself looks really bad, so i usually have it on the side
any of these hairstyles look okay? will it mesh well with the dress?
