Hi everyone, I am wanting to buy a new game on my switch, specifically a life sim game. I have been looking at Littlewood and Stardew Valley in particular, but I am unsure which way to jump or whether I should look at something else entirely. I love this genre of games, I have never played harvest moon or any farmer sim games but I have enjoyed tomodachi life, animal crossing, cooking games, the sims, city-building, and business games- the list goes on. I'm interested in hearing what you guys play and perhaps what you would recommend.

Stardew is a fantastic game, and I can definitely recommend it. I didn't get quite as addicted to Stardew as I thought (well hoping) I would though. A game that I'm really excited to try, that's in the mail for me, is My Time at Portia. I've heard it's a pretty fun Sim/Role-playing game, and from what I've seen it looks enjoyable. I'll definitely chime back whenever I get some hours under my belt, but I'd definitely recommend checking it out on Youtube. Seems like a game that went under the radar, but looks like it may be a fantastic addition to a life sim fan. :)

Thank you for the input! Yes, My Time at Portia was another game that has caught my eye, along with Spiritfarer. It does look like a charming and relaxing little roleplay game. I would love to hear your initial thoughts of it once you have played it a bit. Honestly, the more I research the possibilities, the more money I am wanting to spend.

Stardew Valley is wonderful. I have Littlewood on my Switch, I haven't really played it yet but from what I've seen on play throughs and reviews it looks/sounds really good. I just started playing My Time at Portia and it seems like it's gonna be lots of fun. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is also really good :)

Thank you for the suggestions! I am looking into My Time at Portia and Story of Seasons :pioneers of Olive Town atm. Both seem like they should be up my alley so I might buy one soon and hope for the best.

story of seasons: pioneers of olive town is about to get a big overhaul update (and i believe it's also on sale for another day or few for E3 season?), so if you're looking into getting that one now's a pretty good time to snag it! it's a fun game. i also recommend rune factory 4 special, which is part of a spinoff of the story of seasons series -- so if you end up liking that PoOT, you might want to look into rf4s! it's a jrpg + life sim combo so it has combat, but it's still at heart a life & farming sim. (i'd also recommend looking into both friends of mineral town and also SOS games for past systems if you end up liking pioneers of olive town as well! there's a lot of them.)

stardew valley is also good as has been said, but personally i think it's better played on PC because of the invaluable modding scene 😅

That's really good to know, thank you! I think I might buy SOS Pioneers of Olive Town tonight, it looks like something I might really enjoy. An update sounds exciting! I went ahead and bought Stardew Valley, which I am already really enjoying. I have heard bits and pieces about Rune Factory 4 so I'll keep that in mind if I like pioneers of olive town.

I will also say that Stardew Valley is an excellent game. One of my top ten favorite games of all time for sure. The guy who makes it (just one guy!) is amazing and keeps updating it with tons of new content that's all included in the original price. It's an obvious labor of love, and I think that's part of why so many people love to play it.

And they're not out yet, but I have my eye on Sun Haven and Roots of Pacha, which could be described as "Stardew Valley with even more magic" and "Stardew Valley but in the stone age," respectively. Should be out on the Switch sometime in the next year or so, I think. So if you wind up liking Stardew Valley, you might also want to keep your eye on those.

To a lesser extent, Forager is a very fun game, but it's not a life sim so much as a gathering/crafting game, which is a big part of games like Stardew Valley. I really enjoy Forager, but if you're hoping for a town full of people to interact with and form relationships with, there's none of that in Forager. Just lots of gathering, crafting, and a bit of dungeon-delving.

I have put in over 100 hrs of gameplay for Stardew Valley, specifically my main save file on Switch. The game post-main storyline is whatever you want it to be imo. It’s easy to set it aside when you feel burnt out or overwhelmed and then resume playing when you feel up to it. I’ve also purchased the PC version of SDV for obvious reasons. :)

I was interested in Littlewood when I came across the clips and gameplay screenshots the devs would periodically share with those who were really hyped for the game. I haven’t purchased the game though, so I can’t speak on how it is in comparison.

oh my, this one looks so gorgeous and the mechanic of magic looks super fun ; O ;
Have you seen the trailer for Yokai Inn? I think it looks promising.

I am already addicted to Stardew valley, I got it last week and have been loving it ever since. Thank you so much for the recommendations, I will 100% be keeping an eye on those titles. I am really loving the farming sim genre with the villager aspect

i realise you've already bought stardew (and am glad you're loving it!!) but wanted to chime in a little bit on some of the other games i've seen mentioned. littlewood is definitely a ton of fun but, to me at least, it feels less personal than stardew if that makes sense? it might just be the design/art style but nevertheless it's a super fun game and for the first few days i had it i was totally addicted. i saw spiritfarer mentioned as well - i bought that just last week and i think it's also really cute! it's a bit slower paced, as you do a lot of travelling between different areas in the sea and you have to wait in real time to get there but there are ways to occupy your time to an extent. it's also much less of a farming sim and more just a chill, feel good game but i would absolutely recommend it, especially now that it's on sale (i think it still is).

side note i haven't played my time at portia but i'm told it might be worth holding out on that and buying the sequel instead? but i have no personal experience there

I could never get into stardew although I really wish I could.

But I fully recommend getting my time at portia. I've sunk well over 100 hours into that game. It is so fun and all the characters are great. It's one of the best games I've bought on the switch

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is one of the best life-sim games I've ever played and I recommend it for anyone looking for a new game of the genre

Haven't tried Pioneers of Olive Town though.

I haven't read too much about it, but there's a new game I've seen mentioned called Kitaria Fables that may fit here, although it seems like more of an RPG with farming/crafting rather than a life-sim.

Stardew was okay, but I didn't get into it like a lot of people here. It feels a bit too rushed and time-crunched for me.

Cozy Grove is cute, and I play that in little bursts. I love that you bring the island back to life as you complete tasks.

I just started playing Garden Paws, and I'm very much liking that. It has a cute feel to it.

Littlewood is on my wishlist, though I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. I will probably get it, at some point, because I do like that genre of game.

Stardew Valley is a great game and one that I own on my switch. I would also recommend Rune factory 4 Special and Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral town for the switch also. The farm sim genre is defiantly my favorite.
