System transfer question

So I recently ordered a refurbished 3DS from GameStop so I could do a system transfer from my old 3DS (both the source system and the target system are the original 3DSXL model) But when I got it in the mail, there was no SD card Will this be a problem? I know you're supposed to take the SD card out of the source system and put it in the target system when the transfer is complete, but does the target system have to have an SD card as well for the transfer to be possible at all? Or am I good to go, since my old 3DS does have an SD card? I've never done a system transfer before, so I'm nervous and everything is confusing XD

I want to say you'll need a SD card to go with the target system, as whichever one you empty usually needs something one it. I've never done a system transfer without an SD card to be honest, perhaps the Official Nintendo Support forum would have a better answer.

Yea I think you'll need an sd card in both but not sure, nintendo support is your best bet
