I remember first hearing about Animal Crossing in the summer of 2002 in Nintendo Power. I discovered this neat site called Retro Mags that just happens to have scans of the original article in Nintendo Power showing off Animal Crossing. I figured this was too good not to share here. Enjoy! :giggle:

ah, this is so neat!! i wasn’t alive yet when the first animal crossing game came out, and i wasn’t introduced to the series until 2006-2008, so it’s cool to see the beginning of it and how it was marketed back then! i’d also love to play the original animal crossing one day — it seems so iconic. :’)

This is taking me so far back. I remember the reality show-style commercial with the actors in the mascot suits as well. Good lord, where does the time go?
Completely forgot about those, those commercials were hilarious! Reminds me of the N64 Smash Bros commercial too. Those were the days!

Has a similar feeling to this...

This is so cool!!! I wasn't around to experience the original Animal Crossing when it was new and still played by a bunch of people, but I have an appreciation for old media such as scans of game magazines like this, it's cool to look back on it (and in such high quality!)
Also if I'm cosplaying as a villager I'd pay so much money just to look how they did in the old commercials

Cute. I found Animal Crossing because an electronic store advertised their DS with wild world playing on them, like you could play on secured devices to test them. I fell in love with it and would play for hours in store lol. Must have been 2006.

Wow you really brought me back… I remember reading Nintendo power and being so excited for every issue.
my cousin and I used to fight terribly over who would get to play animal crossing first on the gamecube when we got home from school 😅
I was older so, naturally, would win. But I feel kinda bad about it now. We were both just so obsessed with the game.

I remember the excitement checking the mailbox every month when it was around the time for the new issue of Nintendo Power to arrive... and when it did, I dropped everything and read it front to back before doing anything else. :ROFLMAO:

I heard about Animal Crossing from a YouTuber called "Chuggaconroy" who did a Lets play of Animal Crossing New Leaf back in 2013 and I started to get interested into the game.

I love Chuggaa! He's my all-time favorite YouTuber. I started watching around when Pikmin 2 came out, I think.

That's neat that you found scans. The only thing I remember is seeing the Gamecube game in the game case at walmart. Never actually knew anything about animal crossing. I remember the case looking interesting but since I was a kid, I could only have a few games per console so it was almost always pokemon games I would get via gift money if people didn't buy me clothing. Otherwise I probably would have picked it up.

Wow, this brings back tons of memories and nostalgia! I love seeing that it's been preserved. Definitely saving these.

Oh my gosh, such a nostalgia bomb! I remember literally having this exact issue of Nintendo Power and being sooo excited for Animal Crossing. There were several games I specifically bought because of Nintendo Power. Was a shame when they stopped printing it.
