Donkey Kong got a redesign to look like he does in the movie, I suppose. Personally, I’m not a fan.

I don’t like it either. Fortunately, Nintendo may revert to their old DK design if they receive enough complaints.

What did they do to bro? 😭 This one is fine, but the old one DK is better. I guess it is refreshing to have a new design and it makes sense since Wonder redesigned most of the cast, but eh. I just think he looks kind of cursed now. The movie designs don’t really work well outside of the movie imo.

I think it’s disturbing. When I first saw that image cropped online I thought it had been edited 🤣🤣 he looks scary!

#disgusting lol. He looks so off. Like it doesn't even look like DK!

I love it!! he looks more like his arcade design to me and I think that's neat
Yeah I don't mind his new look. It's actually his old look and it's kind of cool they're going back with that design. It could just be for the next MK so I wouldn't worry about it too much if anyone doesn't like his design.

When I first saw this I thought of the movie version. They are probably going for interconnectivity with the film and games and all of that nonsense. I don't really care tbh. DK still looks like DK and thats all that matters.

Yeah, no, not fond of that look. I never watched the latest Super Mario Bros. movie and don't have any attachment to it or anything. Even if I had seen the movie, though, I don't think I'd like this movie tie-in stuff. I wasn't fond of when they changed the design on the Princess Peach: Showtime! cover either. I understand why they're doing it from a business perspective, but after such consistent designs for so long, the changes just come off as weird and unnecessary. It's fine if they look different in the movie but movie designs don't need to then be used in the games afterward. Just let them be their own things.

It's interesting to see them use his classic design again but I'm hoping it's mearly a skin. Much like you can switch Yoshi & Shy Guy colors, maybe we can alter Donkey Kong's design/style to retro or modern? It'd be a cool feature, honestly.

I don’t mind it. These classic characters feel like they iterate all the time and can be visually represented in a variety of ways. If they announced this was DK’s new look forever and he was never going to be represented with his previous design, I’d find that a weird choice, but I’m okay with Nintendo’s most prominent characters (like Link, Peach, Donkey Kong) having different designs from game to game. It can be fun.

This is pretty much how I feel. I voted for "I hate it," BUT as long as it's not permanent I'm okay with it. It'd feel pretty weird to me, even as someone who doesn't play a lot of Mario games anymore, lol.

I don't feel strongly either way, but I agree with Milly that he looks kind of charming.

Well, his new design is honestly not awful by any stretch of the imagination, and it sort of resembles his design from the movie, which Nintendo (who had a large hand in production) is slowly basing their current game character designs off of. However, the '90s Rare design is so iconic, it'll take a bit of time to get used to. If his eyes were spread apart a bit more, it maybe wouldn't cause as much disagreement, but I digress. All I'll say is that this isn't on the same level as the "uncanny valley" Sonic from the first trailer to Sonic the Hedgehog.
