Are you interested in the Olympics that are currently taking place in Paris? Do you watch it or do you have any critisism?
Is there a type of sport you love to watch?

I watched Gymnastics, Surfing, Swimming, and Running. It's interesting to see stuff that I would have otherwise ignored. There's a huge variety and it's honestly a nice thing to just keep on in the background.

I saw criticism about the opening ceremony. I won't go too much into that, but I just don't think it's fair for it to overshadow the athletes who spent a lifetime of training to reach this point.

My partner and I watch daily - my favourites so far have been the athletics, gymnastics & swimming ☺️ it always inspires me to be a bit more active, and when I was younger I was a very fast 100m sprinter and used to compete! So I have a special place in my heart for that race.

Not watching the Olympics at all but I do love the memes.

Several thoughts, as someone who enjoys watching the Olympics:

—I was so happy to see the USA women’s gymnastics team win again!

—My cat also loves gymnastics (the bars and beam, especially), and touches the screen whenever cycling is on. 😸

—I always enjoy the equestrian events. 🐎

—And fencing, all sword types.

—I need to tune into rhythmic gymnastics, too— I first learned about it from Ranma and think it’s pretty awesome.

—There is an 11-year-old Chinese girl in skateboarding. That’s cool, since I can barely balance on a skateboard lol.

—American men dominating skeet shooting? Groundbreaking! (sarcastic)

—I saw some good fanart of the surfer Gabriel Medina (the one who held his finger up in mid-air) and it kind of made him look like an Animal Crossing villager haha.

—I feel like I somewhat understand archery due to Wii Sports Resort, but when I try to follow along I get confused.

—I can’t wait to see the breakdancing, or “breaking” as it will be called. It won’t be on until August 8th, but I’m ready. Will it be a dance-off, or will they compete one at a time?

—I think the memes about shooting are hilarious— especially the ones calling the Korean guy Guido Mista and the Turkish guy a retired hitman.

—I see a lot of online thirst for a male American gymnast who wears glasses, but I prefer bigger guys, so I’m looking forward to shot put and weightlifting. 😍 I think the bigger Korean and Japanese judo guys were handsome, too.

—Still proud of Teddy Riner for winning gold in judo, though I was rooting for Tatsuru Saito since Japan missed their judo medal in the last Olympics.

—I love watching boxing, too. My dad is a big fan, so maybe that’s how I got into it lol.

I LOVE THE OLYMPICS. I don't really follow sports otherwise, but for some reason the Olympics completely captivate me every time. I love how many unusual sports are showcased. I grew up watching them with both my parents (only child) so it was also a nice family bonding experience, as I was otherwise pretty uninterested in TV and would usually go read or play video games on my own if my parents were watching something.

My absolute favorite Olympic sport is street skateboarding, which was added in 2020. The tricks always have me gasping and shouting dramatically, and I love that the athletes have more freedom in their attire. In particular, I appreciate seeing a sport that doesn't require the female athletes to perform a high level of cultural femininity in order to be respected. Skateboarding has been prohibited or highly restricted for women in many countries around the world, so it honestly feels like I'm watching a kind of resistance when women and girls gather on a global stage to demonstrate their competency. (Watching that 13-year-old girl from China take gold in 2020? And the other competitors picked her up and carried her around on their shoulders? I wanted to CRY. Anyway.)

Other favorites include BMX trick biking, handball, rugby sevens, and I am beyond excited for the new-in-2024 sport of breakdancing, which I have always loved.

Runners-up: gymnastics, fencing, sport climbing, synchronized diving, table tennis, and I'm excited to see some coverage of kite surfing and field hockey for the first time.

I never pay attention to the Olympics. I just don't care about it and honestly, I am surprised they are still a thing. It's good that the nations get along well enough for it in 2024 though I assume.

I love sports in general, but I'm not a fan of the Olympics. As someone pointed out to me recently, it's basically the "Oscars for sports," which I'm inclined to agree with. I don't even watch the normal Oscars, lol.

i've only seen some snippets of the olympics from my twitter/tiktok timeline. i don't watch tv anymore so i'm not actively following the olympics. i was sorta keeping up with gymnastics since i love gymnastics and i really enjoyed simone biles' triumphant return this year. she was spectacular as expected! suni lee was also great and she managed bronze. USA gymnastics truly is always so great to watch.

i also saw all those memes about shooting/rifle shooting events (?). i had no clue we even had those sports for the olympics ngl. it's the first time i saw so many people talk about shooting as a sport lol. the memes are great. those shooters are fabulous.

unfortunately on the not so bright side, i've also heard some controversies about the women's boxing match and all that. the controversy there is kinda wild. the fact that people are debating on if imane khelif is a woman is just insane 😭

I’m kind of paying attention, I guess. I just watch it randomly mostly when my dad or sister forces me to. There’s so many interesting things/controversies that have happened, like that guy that won silver in shooting with no equipment and one hand in his pocket. I don’t remember it being like this last time, but also I don’t really remember anything lol. I think I should start paying attention more.

Yeah. Aside from transphobia and people “boycotting” the Olympics because “they let a man fight a woman” (I saw someone post that.) …it’s literally illegal to transition in Algeria. According to childhood photos, Imane is a cis female, so this “transgender” argument is ridiculous. I feel bad she’s under so much scrutiny; it must be extremely uncomfortable.

Hina Hayata won bronze in women’s single table tennis and I’m happy for her. This is partially because her Korean opponent SCREAMED every time she (the Korean lady) scored a point. I thought it was annoying and distracting for Hina, like maybe someone should have told her to stop? But either way, I’m terrible at table tennis so all the medalists are like gods to me lol.

Oh, and I LOVED seeing Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg at the dressage tonight. 😂 Those two are hilarious together.

I haven't been watching for a couple of reasons. For one thing I couldn't find a place to watch them and even if I could find a place a lot of the times are in the very early hours of the morning for me. Another thing is that I tend to prefer the winter Olympics.

Although I haven't been watching I have been reading a lot of interesting articles about the various happenings there. Lots of juicy controversies. And I did also appreciate the Turkish shooter memes 😅

i usually only watch the olympics if they're airing when i'm on vacation, where watching the few basic tv channels is one of the few things to do during downtime lmao. but the two things didn't coincide this year, and i don't watch tv generally. all i really know is the memes and all the other things that cross my for you page, including the transphobic controversy surrounding the algerian boxer. (even though she isn't trans herself.) imo, her most recent(?) opponent should've been disqualified or smth for what she posted on her instagram story last night.

yeah, been watching a lot of stuff with my sister and padre! seen swimming, tennis and gymnastics amongst other stuff. pretty hyped for the cycling, boxing and athletics :]

A lady from near my hometown is in the Olympics. She’s made it there before, but never won a medal. (though she’s won championships) It’s amazing to even qualify for the Olympics, I think.

I've been watching Olympic basketball but that's about it, not a big Olympic watcher.

I am surprised to see more than a few negative comments about the Olympics. This isn't just "sports" or some sort of sports "academy awards".

For the most part, these are amateur athletes (with exceptions for some sports having sponsored athletes). These are the best athletes from around the world, and they are competing for their countries... and PROUD of it.

Comparing the Olympics to anything else is shameful. This isnt your nightly local sports program on TV. Have pride in the athletes from whichever country you live in. They aren't just the best, but they have spent years of their lives to represent their country in front of the entire world.

I've basically had Olympic coverage on 24/7 since it began. While I prefer the Winter Olympics over the Summer ones, I'm always interested in seeing how well Canada does, in addition to watching sports I normally wouldn't care about the rest of this 4 year span, lol.

My main interest going into these Olympics was Canada's women's soccer team, who were the defending gold medalists from the last Olympics in Tokyo. Unfortunately, they got off to a very controversial start because of the scandal of a team analyst using a drone to spy on New Zealand's practice, which led to them being punished after winning their opening game. Even though I feel like what the coaches got was more than fair, I feel like the players were unfairly and harshly punished with a 6 point deduction despite not playing a role in what happened. So they ended up having to win every group stage game just to have a chance at advancing. Somehow they pulled off a miraculous comeback against France, one of the biggest wins they've ever accomplished in their history, then managed to beat out Colombia to advance out of the group stage despite all the adversity and pressure they had faced and the odds being stacked against them. It's honestly awe-inspiring that they managed to do it!

Even though they didn't make it much farther as they got knocked out by Germany in the QFs in a close match, I'm very proud of them for sticking it to FIFA and making it to the QFs in the first place and going out on their own terms. They showed a lot of resilience and determination to just keep fighting even though it would've been so easy for them to give up. Even if they won't get a medal that they frankly deserved just for what they had to go through, I definitely won't forget what they were able to accomplish in these Olympics.

Aside from that, I just want to say Summer McIntosh is pretty amazing! First ever Canadian with 3 gold medals in one Olympics and she's only 17, just wild. I'm definitely looking forward to watching her again in the LA Olympics in 4 years time. It's also been wonderful seeing who's been able to win medals for Canada, from the expected to the unexpected, and it's definitely nice we were able to match our gold/overall medal totals from the Tokyo Olympics 3 years ago, and have a chance to surpass them tomorrow!
