Please Note: This thread is not meant to hate on the game or try to tell others how to feel or think of the game this is just my own opinions and its fine to disagree, I am grateful that Nintendo has improved the game but there are some things that still bother me. I just wanna make that very clear:

The fact that you basically have limited items to start off with when you first start making the first client homes feels limited. Now I know they did this on purpose in order for us to unlock more furniture catalog items when you do more villager homes, but it is kinda annoying when villagers ask for certain themes and yet you don't have the furniture to even express what sorta theme they want. For example I remember Antonio was asking me for a "Simple Stronghold" which at the time I figured that he just wanted a strong home gym, but the problem was I didn't have any of the Exercise Furniture and instead the "Order" he wanted was just all "Simple furniture". How is that even fair?

Have you guys ever had this issue where you're trying to fit the theme that the villager wants, but you didn't have the actual furniture in your catalog because you had to unlock it later on? I can see this being pretty time consuming and tedious when you're trying to build homes but start off with so little furniture in the catalog. Btw just to let everyone know I do not dislike this DLC its a great DLC and its one of the best things they ever did for this game, but this one issue bothered me for quite some time.

Personally I didn't find this to be an issue.

The DLC can be enjoyed if one didn't feel the need to rush through it. It's just like the main game. We start with nothing and then work our way up to acquire more skills and items. Nothing is permanent. Islander houses can be moved, terraforming can be reversed, etc. It's the same with the DLC. You can always return to the vacation homes you want to remodel because you've decided that it should be better. Even the facilities. The impermanence of the customizable options is a very attractive feature. To me, at least.

If a player meets villagers who have design needs he can't yet fulfill because he perceives that he does not have the "necessary" items (beyond what the game actually gives you to ensure that every request can be completed), the player can choose to skip building this vacation home for the time being. There are so many visitors to build for each day on the HHP island. Beyond the ones you find on the beach, don't forget that you can find new visitors in the restaurant and cafe as well. And every time you finish a vacation home, another new visitor pops up.

PS. I say "you" in a general way. Not directed at OP or anyone else.

Wait you can find visitors in the Restaurant and Cafe? I always thought it was just visitors hanging out and the game made me think that it was only on the beach you can find them.

Yep, there's around 2 or 3 visitors that you can find in the cafe and restaurant so always make sure to check them out ^^

But how am I supposed to know who is which. I sometimes confuse them for villagers who I did designs for already but I am not sure which ones I haven't done yet. I've done so many villager homes that its hard to know sometimes.

By talking to them. If they are new, their dialogue will reflect it

IIRC if you’re in work clothes mode, the prompts will appear as a speech bubble when you go near them in the cafe/restaurant like how it is outside.

Oh okay. I mean sheesh how in the world did I miss this? Okay well next time I will remember to check that out next time. I feel so dumb because I saw Raymond inside on time and then I remember thinking "Oh shoot I didn't make a design for him yet" I will remember next time.

OMG i also did not know this, but its true, go to your cafe for example and approach villagers which you have not done homes yet. Wow, Love this !!!hahahah

Happy Home Designer had the same issue. it was nice when I finally unlocked a large portion of the available items but it sucks at first when you have ideas and can't put them into fruition until much later. and even then trying to remember which houses you wanna go back and fix is a hassle.

I understand the frustration, buuuut it’s kind of a non issue. You eventually unlock the ability to use your catalog items and diy creations in your builds anyway. If it’s that bothersome you can just go back and redo their house.

Honestly once my catalog gets TOO big, I tend to have the opposite issue, or I guess the same-but-from-a-different-angle - there are so many options it’s easy for my builds to look really ‘samey’ if I leave the order section, so I try to keep pretty closely to that instead. Sometimes this means I don’t include items that I would later think of as obvious choices (and I haven’t made great use of columns and counters yet, honestly,) but I feel bad if I just add the same things to every house.

Wish there were a search function in the catalog, though - might be a hassle to type in, but I’d like not to have to switch to alphabetical to include all the Nordic items or the like.

Yeah I feel like a search option would be so much useful than just sorting everything by "Type" or "Alphabetical"

I don't have an issue with it, really. The first homes are usually more for practice anyway, and by getting a few new items at a time, it allows you to focus on those items and familiarize yourself with them. I never felt like I couldn't complete a request... especially since I didn't even know what items were potentially available. I think it would have been really overwhelming if all items were available at once.

My pre-2.0 catalogue is pretty good, though... so maybe someone just starting out would have a harder time at first, but things unlock rather quickly.

It has bothered me when building Papi's house. I wanted to use Firewood, but it wasn't available until I built Stu's house.

But it doesn't bother me none as you can always remodel their house design, no, the one thing that does bother me is the fact that you don't get a separate design slot just for HHP. I mean, I don't want to go for a citycore theme in my island, but what if I want to build vacation homes that involves the city? Oh right, I can't as the in-game paths aren't very street like and no road to back up. Which means I'd have to sacrifice several of my already used patterns just to use road and that could impact my island just because of one simple city themed vacation home request.

In HHD you had 8 slots of designs which was massive, still though it was a separate game and not connected to NL in any way. I would love for Nintendo to do my request.

I personally don't see this as an issue.

It seems the DLC has been made similarly to Happy Home Designer, where you have to work and grind to unlock all the furniture overtime. I would kind of find it pointless, if we were just given everything all at once. Gotta add a bit of a challenge in there and use some creativity :) Just like when you first start your island, you don't get everything at once do you? You have to work for it. I really like that aspect of it. Otherwise I would probably be bored in 5 minutes. That wouldn't make it interesting too me. I like the idea of having the story behind it, where you unlock things as you go along. That was one of my favourite things about Happy Home Designer as well.

I guess you just kind of have to get creative if you don't have the furniture items you want to use in your catalog yet. But once you design a certain amount of homes, you gain access to your entire catalog while designing anyways. (I have yet to unlock this feature), so you can go back and remodel the first villager homes you did if you're not totally happy with them. That's what I plan on doing when I have done 30 homes and have unlocked the ability to decorate homes on my island.

Anyway, yeah doesn't bother me whatsoever. I'm really enjoying coming up with designs with what I have in my catalog. Most of the items I would never usually touch, so it's getting me out of my comfort zone a little bit. :)

Nobody's mentioned this but a stronghold is a place that's heavily protected from attack, not related to working out! That would be why you got dud furniture.

In my experience they do give you enough stuff to get the theme right, but I understand the frusration of knowing there's a perfect item for the room but it's not unlocked yet. But it's so easy to go back and redo the room and you get Poki for it so I think it's not so bad.

I understand it's not as fun to design the first few homes before you unlock more features and items. But since you can remodel the houses at any time, however many times, I wasn't really bothered by it. I kinda just plopped the necessary furniture down and left it until I unlocked more. :)

This issue doesn't last too long anyway! Soon enough you'll have plenty unlocked ^_^

I would see it as a problem if you couldn't remodel their homes. But fortunately, you can, to your heart's content, so it's just a matter of remembering that AC is was built on the ideas of "it's about the journey, not the destination" and "it's a marathon, not a sprint".

You don't need or have to decorate their homes in a definitive way, so it may be even more interesting to find a piece of furniture later that makes you think "hmm this [random furniture] would look very nice in [random villager]'s vacation home".

I honestly love that they did it that way, it made me look forward to doing the next home and so on. It's fun to see what new furniture was added to the game that way, too. Plus you can always go back and re-do a house!
