One day, when I was very young, a storyteller came to our town. She was dressed in a cloak and hood, and we could not see her face. Nobody knew who the storyteller was, or had heard of her. When the town children gathered around, she told us a familiar fairy tale.
"Long long ago", she spoke, "There was an evil being, the dark one, he sought to extinguish the power of the goddesses, and plunged the world into darkness. Then, a boy, wearing the green of fields, the clothes of a Kokori sought to stop him. He gathered the Jewels of Forest, Flame, and Water, the sacred treasures of the Goddesses, in an effort to stop him. He was aided by the Princess, who gave him direction, and sent him to save the world.
The boy used the Jewels to open a door, a door of Time, where lay the blade of evil's bane, the Master Sword. By touching it, however, he allowed the dark one to gain access to the power of the goddesses...the sacred Triforce. The dark one gained all the power he needed, then put the land under his control, tainting the sacred Triforce, and plunging the land under a wave of darkness. The boy, however, dissapeared for seven years. He awoke a strong young man, with the resolve to stop the evil that he unwittingly started. He was aided by a Shiekah, the last of the mysterious ninja clan. The Shiekah pointed the way, and gave him aid on many occasions. The hero had to awake the Sages, who would gather their power to defeat the dark one.
After many hard trials, he awoke the sages. Forest, Fire, Water, Shadow, Spirit, and Light. After these trials, he had the power to defeat the dark one. But he had one last gift. The Shiekah who helped him along the way was the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom, the piece the true heir to the Hylian throne held, along with the Sage of Time. The Shiekah was the Princess in disguise, hiding herself from the dark one, and helping the hero with the journey. The hero held the Triforce of Courage. When the Triforce split, the power resounded with those two youths as able to gain the shards of the Triforce, and the ability to defeat the dark one.
Unwittingly, the princess had thrown the hero into the plot by allowing the dark one to gain access to the Triforce, while trying to rescue the land from him. The dark one later found the princess, and the hero had to fight the dark one to rescue the princess. He journeyed to the dark one's castle, and defeated the dark one, and with the help of the Seven Sages, sealed the dark one into the void forever...,
One little girl piped up. "What happened after that?"
The storyteller sighed.. "Children, I will tell you what happenned after the dark one was defeated...this story is in no book."
"After the hero saved the land, the princess had to return the hero to his own time...but she could not bring herself to do it....for she had fallen...... in love with the hero.... but their love was not destined to be, transcended by time... they spent some time together, and then the princess, broken-hearted had to send her true love back to his own time. She hoped she could see him again, but she never did. The hero dissapeared, leaving the land of Hyrule forever."
The storyteller had tears in her eyes when she was telling us this part, and the children were crying softly.
The storyteller wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Children, do not cry..the hero will return someday, for whenever the world is in need, the hero will return, along with the princess he left behind. Together, they will save the world, but they will be together someday, the hero and the princess." The storyteller closed her eyes.
"This story is no fairy tale. It is real, and happened not too long ago." She held up her hand. It shone with a sparkling light.
"I am the princess, and the hero is.....still gone, but he will return someday, I promise you...."
The storyteller left several days later, and seemingly vanished into mid-air. Nobody else had heard of her, the tragic princess. Her story will stay with me forever, and it will not die.
The everlasting story, of the Hero of Time.
