The Truth: Lucky and Ankha
By DefinitelyNotSteve (TBT) aka ProbablyNotSteve (Reddit) aka ImNotSteve (ACC)

--------------------------------------------Part 1----------------------------------------------

In the times of Ancient Egypt, cats were highly valued by humans and were a popular pet choice for royalty. Ankha, the Pharaoh's cat, was surrounded by wealth, adorned with jewelry and given the most delectable feasts in all of Egypt. While Ankha lived a rich and pampered life, Lucky the dog was not so privileged. In a small and humble home, Lucky sat patiently, wondering if his master would return with enough food for the both of them. His owner was very kind to him, always making sure to share the bits of bread he received from work, even on the days where the pay was small.

On this day however, as Lucky felt his empty stomach growling, he noticed that his owner had not come home at his usual hour. Something didn't feel quite right, so Lucky set out towards where his master worked: the construction site for the new pyramid that was being built. As he trotted along the sandy path, he noticed something unusual in the distance. Construction had halted, and the workers were gathered around a particularly large stone, one of the many building blocks used to create the pyramid. Except this stone was not where it was supposed to be; it seemed to have tumbled down off the slope of the pyramid, landing in the sand below. Approaching this scene, Lucky saw something that sent chills through his spine: what seemed to be a man's body wrapped in rags, being carried away from the site by officials. Lucky's eyes darted around the crowd as he looked for his master, but all he saw were the unfamiliar faces of other workers filled with distraught and worry. Racing forwards, Lucky was determined to identify the man underneath the cloth, filled with fear of what he may discover. As he neared the officials, he could only make out one portion of the man they carried: his hand. It was a hand damaged by time and scarred with poverty. The warm hand that Lucky watched every night as it lowered a modest bit of food into his bowl for him to eat. The hand of his master.

Devastated by this revelation, Lucky sat frozen, unable to move, unable to cry, unable to do anything except stare in disbelief. The sun eventually set and the workers dispersed, returning home to feed their families. Night had fallen and stars appeared in the sky. All that remained was Lucky, scared and alone. Where would he go without his master? How could he live without his master? He sat there in the dark, starving, depressed, defeated. At that moment, a glimmer of gold caught his eye, releasing him from his trance. Lucky had never seen gold before, so he turned towards this color with both curiosity and wonder. From the darkness, a very unusual figure emerged: a cat dressed in gold. Lucky was staring at this figure cautiously, unsure of how to react, when the cat made a gesture signaling him to follow her.

He decided to listen and followed her, traveling quite a distance away from the construction site, when suddenly the cat stopped moving. She hopped towards an oddly shaped rock and disappeared behind it, reemerging with a large satchel decorated with jewels. As she opened the satchel, Lucky's eyes went wild: mounds of assorted food, most of which he'd never seen before, were laid out in front of him. His nose was flooded with the most delicious smells he had ever experienced in his life. He dove into the pile, filling up his depraved stomach with more than he could chew. As he raced around with his tail up high, he realized in embarrassment that he had completely forgot his manners! Looking up at the cat with his mouth full of food, Lucky tried to show his appreciation by bowing down his head. He watched in glee as the cat copied his friendly gesture, before running off into the distance.

Lucky was upset that his new friend had left him, but with all the food he had eaten he knew that he couldn't run after her. So he laid down with a full stomach, reliving the events of the day. Even with all the sadness that filled his heart, there was a small spark of hope that he felt within him. He was eager to learn more about the mysterious cat that had been so nice to him, a kindness that reminded him of his master. And although Lucky didn't know where she had run off to, he did catch sight of something peculiar. When she bowed down her head, he had noticed something carved on an ornately jeweled band she wore across her forehead, written in gleaming gold letters. It spelled, "Ankha".

--------------------------------------------Part 2----------------------------------------------

Shaking a beetle off his nose, Lucky slowly opened his foggy eyes, looking around in confusion. He had fallen asleep where his mysterious new friend had left him, among the leftover scraps of food from the night before. Just as quickly as he woke up, memories from the past day resurfaced: the construction site, the faces, the hand...his master's hand...Lucky's sadness had returned. But there was something different about today: he was still depressed, but no longer defeated. Somewhere in all the darkness, Lucky could see a speck of light, a sparkling golden light that called out to him. He found purpose once more, a new path for him to follow. At that moment Lucky knew what he had to do: he had to find Ankha.

Turning towards the direction he last saw her, Lucky searched for any clues that could aid him on his search. Looking for footprints proved to be futile, since the morning winds had already concealed her delicate steps. But his sharp eyes noticed a single strand of fur resting on the ground, and using his powerful nose, Lucky picked up a familiar scent. It was Ankha's! Now sniffing furiously, he found another strand of fur, and then another one...if he followed this trail of fur, he could find her! Piece by piece, Lucky hopped to each one with excitement, wondering what he would find at the end. In fact he was so excited that his trot became a gallop, and eventually he was running so fast that before he could notice what was in front of him, he crashed head-first into a stone wall!

Lucky got back onto his feet, watching the world spin in circles. Scratching his head in puzzlement, he felt a massive lump near his forehead from the impact. He tried to shake off the dizziness by walking forward, but after three wobbly steps he tumbled back onto the ground. Lying on the soft sand, Lucky wondered what his master would think of him at a time like this. Would he disapprove of his actions, look down on him with pity or shame? No, he would stand there with that familiar smile, that warm toothy grin that appeared whenever Lucky made a mistake, assuring him that everything was okay.....oh how he missed that smile.....

He shook himself out of his daydream, getting back on his feet and brushing the sand off his eyes. As he lifted his head up towards the wall, he noticed that what he had crashed into was nothing ordinary. It was the wall to the Pharaohs palace! The scent he had been following led him to the most extraordinary place in all of Egypt! Why did he end up here? And then his eyes met something else extraordinary: a familiar face sparkling with gold and filled with amusement. Ankha! She sat a few feet away from him, hiding her giggles with a paw as she examined his predicament. Suddenly all of the pieces started falling into place and everything became clear. Ankha is the Pharaoh's cat! This discovery shocked Lucky, as he stood speechless. And then he realized another thing: she must have witnessed the whole spectacle he made of himself! Lucky tried to conceal his embarrassment by standing tall and proud, but it was clear that Ankha could see right through his illusion. So he lowered his head and blushed with a shy smile, wondering how he always managed to make a fool of himself in front of her. Ankha approached him, lowering her head as well, and with a quick motion of her tongue she began to soothe the irritated lump on his forehead. Lucky was surprised by this, but he stayed motionless as she eased the pain he had so carelessly dealt to himself. His heart was filled with warmth, and he started to feel something that he thought he had lost forever. For the first time since his master died, Lucky felt loved.
