There are thousands of different themes. Some are minor or weird (like the Spongebob Theme), but others are major or broad (like the Winter Theme). However, if there are different types of themes, there are only four different types. Granted, there are sub-themes to a major theme, but there are four different types. None more, and none less.

  • Generic - this type of theme is absolutely or relatively theme-less. If you decided to have a generic themed party or a generic themed park, everything will be completely basic. These themes are just neutral. When you're told to "stick to the theme", items or decorations coming from this type of theme won't count against you since they can be related to any theme. However, if you want to stick to one generic theme, you would want to avoid using items from an exciting theme or another generic theme.
    • Themes that count as generic:
    • Themes based on a color scheme in general.
    • Themes based on a shape or solid.
    • Themes based on a pattern (such as striped or zigzag lines).
    • Themes based on a material (such as wood or metal).
  • Seasonal - this type of theme includes all themes pertaining to the four seasons (winter, spring, summer, and fall). They include weather elements, animals related to the season, and other forms of nature in each season. And this is not limited to the seasons in general. Holiday themes are also covered under the seasonal themes, at least major holidays.
  • World - this type of theme includes all themes based on countries around the world. They can include anything based after a continent, a country, or even a state. There's no time limit either. It includes historical themes, modern-day themes, and even fantasy themes based on what state, country, or continent you're basing after. This also includes generic themes that are related to the world (such as the sea theme, the city theme, and the wilderness theme). Three of rhe most well-known themes under this type are the medieval theme, pirate theme, and western theme.
  • Fantasy - easily the largest type of theme, but there are a few generic themes that go under this type. This includes all themes based after literature and media (including movies, books, TV shows, and games). At a more generic glance to avoid copyright infringement, you could see what these shows and games are based after. They are fairy-tale, horror, sci-fi, adventure, and prehistoric themes. But there's still more. This is the theme type you're the most familiae with.

In the next three entries, I will cover what classifies as each theme under the theme types.
