I will be making chibis. I know I need an X-acto knife, dotters, and clay..so yeah.

I'm confused on what your asking or saying...
Maybe look up what you need to buy?
Also good luck on making them! <3

don't make chibis out of clay. the heads have to be big so they'll just fall over, so you'll have to keep them lying down which is no fun. if it's baking clay they'll get burned/squished from lying on their backs in the oven and if it's air-dry you/your sibling(s) will probably end up accidentally breaking it. you could make flat things but that honestly just defeats the purpose of using clay.

smaller ones don't break, but if you're older than 9 your hands will probably be too big to make anything small. when i was 8-9 i used to make a lot of tiny things (like figures under 2 cm with clothes and faces and stuff), but i physically can't do that anymore.

also i find that clay things look about the same quality no matter how good you are. you'll never be able to get two circles (or anything) the exact same size, so no one is going to notice the difference between something you worked hard on and something you just shoved on. even if you wash your hands after every single color and make sure that nothing gets onto anything else, it'll still get ruined by air/oven stuff (especially if it's small!!).

i guess the good part is that anyone can make garbage out of clay and it'll be considered "awesome" and "creative" and "unique" by people who have never tried it, but whatever. once you've worked with clay for a while you'll come to think of everyone's (INCLUDING YOUR OWN) clay things as terrible.

Well aren't you positive . _.

just saw this, this is kinda true (though not the garbage part, you can actually be pretty nifty with clay if you put your mind to it). i've seen some awesome things made out of clay (like that girl who does really cute dragons and ponies) but not that many people can do it successfully it takes skill, dedication, time and a lotta money.
polymer ain't cheap boo. fimo clay cost me ?1 a 5x5cm piece when i got into it. plus all the tools-an x-acto knife and a dotter is a good place to start but there's glaze and trays and eugh

to op: just curious but are you gonna do surprise eggs? i checked out your youtube channel

I really don't think negativity is necessary. This person is asking for advice, not for you to crush their dreams. Even if you're right, why feel the need to make someone feel bad about themselves?

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to devote my money, time and energy to something only for it to end up broken and unappreciated.

It kinda offended me as well.
I know my stuff isn't the best in the world and isn't as great as what others can do, but you can't honestly say that ANYONE can make stuff like what this person does, no matter how much you practice with it..

I meant that the stuff made by 99% of people (including both 8 year old children and ppl who are very good at art) will look about the same. You have to be extremely talented for it to stand out much.

that's just my opinion though

You probably should rework how you go about presenting your opinion then. =p

"I meant that I think the stuff made by 99% of people"

adding two words to it makes all the difference.

Holy... that's all clay?! That person is amazing! I'm a big fan of your work as well, and I would really like to commission Poppy as soon as things with my dog starts getting better! :)

Yes, someone showed me her page yesterday, it's definitely my goal to one day be as amazing as them. I've only worked with polymer clay for about a year now, so I still have a ways to go. They told me she sells them for like $100 though, it's insane, but that quality, if wanted enough, is probably worth it!

Ah, well thank you! :D
I'll look forward to that day ~
I hope your dog gets better as well <3

I know! It's so perfect! Did you see the prices of their "For Sale" stuff?! So much but definitely worth it!

Yeah I did! Once I get a job I'll definitely consider commissioning her for one of my OC or something. Her villager shelf is so perfect (especially the Merengue & Molly, I probably went into a fit just looking at it)
She uses wire too so I suggest noting that down like someone else did earlier, op. Though I don't think she uses polymer, she just uses regular ol' clay and paints over it.

I already said that it's just my opinion at the end of my post.

I thought her Molly was a lil off, not trying to brag, but I prefer my Molly xD though the matte finish on her work is sometimes preferred over my gloss finish

Though I do agree her Merengue is dead-on. I'm definitely nervous to make my Bruce now cuz hers is seriously perfect.
The wire structure supposedly makes it easier to mold, so definitely is a good suggestion (if you have the $$ to buy all that metal, lol)
And someone told me she uses Sculpey and apoxie sculpt (air dry clay) then paints it with some kinda of special paint that is kinda of a mix of acrylic and clear coat so it doesn't chip.$
Seriously need to invest into that once I get hundreds of dollars to spend on getting it all xD

Wow! She's already sold the Bruce o_o Girl's lucky.
I couldn't choose between the two of them tbh! I would say hers is a little smoother (that's probably bc yours has glaze on it though xD)
I have checked out your thread though. I did really like your Molly. I'm considering ordering but I know that shipping from the US to the UK is both crazy expensive and quite unreliable at times so I'm half-and-half :) But yeah, I really do think your stuff is awesome! Definitely favouriting your Etsy shop.
Yeah! You should just save up a little from all your sales and you'll be able to afford it. I'd like to see if I could invest sometime but crafts aren't my main hobby atm.
