As the title says, I'm considering picking up NH again. I'm not a huge fan of the game, but I really need something to take my mind off of my current situations in life and unfortunately my 2DS just isn't cutting it for me anymore. I wanted to bring back my idea of a sort of gothic fairy graveyard, but at the same time, I'm not sure if I want to spend time grinding and getting villagers I want. Now that I'm in school, I just don't have a lot of time on my hands, and my current state leaves me in periods when I just don't want to do ANYTHING. Do you guys think it's worth it, especially with the sort of update limbo that NH is in?

I'm kind of in the same rut with my game. The only time I get to play really is when I'm doing villager orders, which takes the fun out of the game itself (but I do like helping people and being able to give them something I know they will love, so I don't mind). I would like to get back into my game somehow though, as I loved playing it when I first got it. I think a Gothic fairy graveyard sounds really cool, and if you decide to do that, I'd love to see how it turns out. If getting villagers that you want is a reason you're not sure you'd like to get back into it, I'd be more than willing to help you out as much as I can, no charge. :)

I think getting new villagers and re-doing somethings would help freshen it up a bit. Give you a chance to build up friendship levels with new people and discover new "areas" of your island! Hope this helps, goomy!

Edit: realized I didn't actually answer your question - I do think it's worth it, even with the update limbo. :)

as for me, i'm playing again, when i've finished my current island & when i've got a 2nd switch to do my 2nd island... which'll be different :3

@your local goomy Well we are due for a announcement/update at some point from now until Halloween. People are speculating that the Nintendo direct tomorrow will have something NH related, but I wouldn't put all my faith in that. Still worth keeping an eye out tomorrow just in case. We did get the Mario furniture update during one of the directs.

So depending what they reveal in the direct or during the actual update announcement coming sometime next week or later it may be enough to pique your interest in the game again. Right now nothing ground breaking has really changed with the game. So if you took a break because of lack of favorable content or something of the such, then coming back isn't going to last.

If you have to start back from the ground up (due to resetting, deleting or something) getting a fresh start like that might be fun. It really depends. I couldn't see myself putting time into NH again if I reset, lost/deleted the date, or something like that. There just wasn't enough to engage me. The game is just all about decorating and terraforming and if that isn't your thing you're really limited on ways to play the game.

I recently picked up Stardew Valley which isn't as advanced with terraforming, but you can still decorate your farm the way you want and it has crafting mechanics to the game to. It's worth checking out. It's like Harvest Moon so if you're into that kind of game this might be on that helps you take your mind off of things.

For me personally, grinding or spending a lot of time to get specific villagers is usually when I've been most frustrated by or let down by the game. If I were picking the game back up and trying to enjoy it, I would probably try to avoid putting too much time into finding specific villagers.

While villager lineups and themes can be fun to work toward, there are times where it has felt like a chore and kept me from just enjoying the game for what it is. Other people may feel the opposite, that's just been my experience with it.

I mean, you can always play again and since it sounds like you have an idea, it'll probably be worth it. For me personally, I've decided to pick up other games and having fun with those instead and it's been fun.

if you have some kind of urge to play it and some kind of idea of what you want to do, i'd say it definitely wouldn't hurt picking it up and at least trying to play a little bit! if you don't have the energy to maintain it then that's fine, at least you'll know you gave it a go. i've found myself picking it up a bit more recently but i'm taking it super easy which i think helps keep me coming back to it

Thanks for the advice! I'm still debating on whether or not I want to, as since my save file got wiped I'll have to start over. Over at my art contest on the Museum, I said that people who weren't good at drawing humans could draw Cyd, then I realized how much I missed him. That's kinda my whole purpose for restarting 😅

Take it from me as someone who has spent like over 4,000 hours on this game. Do not force yourself to play it just because you have to. Learn to know when to take a break when you feel like you're overplaying this game so much. I used to do that last year and it really affected my mental health. Since I have a 2nd switch I can always restart and pick out whatever map layout I want. I am not sure if you are thinking of restarting but if you do, you still have all the skills learned from when you first started out playing the game and you start to do things differently that you would not even think of doing the first time.

I would just take a step at a time. There is no need to rush through stuff quickly. Animal Crossing is a game that is meant to be a chill experience and it was not meant to be like some sort of design completion, since I've seen people compare their islands so often and they always get depressed whenever their island is not good enough. You make whatever stands out to you and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Play how you see fit and if you find yourself getting bored with the game again, then take a break or play other games. Thats what I do whenever I feel burned out with New Horizons.

I say: Yes!
I don't know but I just have a feeling that there might be something big coming soon. Knowing how this year went it certainly looks pretty grim, but now that Splatoon 3 is getting released I think they'll focus on NH again. If you fear that you might burn out you don't have to grind. Just play in a slower pace.

whether or not it’s worth it is definitely a personal opinion, but to me it is! i know that our situations are different, but as someone who is also going through a tough time right now, new horizons has helped a lot so far. it sucks that we haven’t really received an update in a while, and have no idea when the next update will come or what it will bring, but i find that even just doing my basic daily tasks (talking to my villagers, catching critters, etc) helps me feel better and forget about what’s going on for a moment. everyone’s different, but it could be a nice distraction, even if you won’t feel up to playing it every day (which is totally okay, by the way!).

the choice is of course entirely yours, but i think trying to play again is worth a shot. also, i’m sorry to hear that your save file got wiped :’o. a gothic fairy graveyard sounds lovely, though! 🖤

I’m the same to be fair. I haven’t played the game once in over 3 months. I think I might just play it for 10 mins every few days and not worry about trying to finish my town etc. Just try to get back to enjoying the fishing and talking to the villagers (which not gonna lie is the worst in all the instalments of the game by hay ho)

I'm not a huge fan of the game
I'm not sure if I want to spend time grinding and getting villagers I want.
I just don't have a lot of time on my hands
I dont think you would get much out of playing the game again.
You say you're not a fan of the game, you don't think you can be bothered to do the work it requires, and you don't have much time to play.

You also have quit the game, and restarted your island shortly after starting again many times over the last few months.
You've also expressed how much you don't enjoy terraforming and you don't seem hugely into doing the general decorations either.

I'm not saying don't play, I just don't think that this time will be the experience you want either.
