Yesterday, I heard that there will be another snowstorm hitting my home town with between 15cm and 35cm of snow within the timeframe of 6 hours. This led me to furiously rage against winter, to the point of considering ruining every kid's appreciation of this season by destroying snowmen with an axe. Yes, I was that angry, but some of you aren't surprised at all, considering the previous blog post I've done few weeks ago involving January. What I didn't mention about our winter in where I live is that their snow would last for twice of the duration of a standard winter. In fact, the snow would start sticking starting mid-November and then all of it would be gone at mid-May at best. That's because storms often tend to traverse around there, given on how close we are to the ocean. And our summer nights are often hovering around 13°C. While its typical unforgiving winter is majorly contributing in getting me considering to move out, it isn't the only aspect that I loathe about Gaspesie. The main problem with it is that the entire struggle I'm currently facing isn't worth dealing with. I'll be bringing up the most prominent shortcomings that I couldn't stand at it anymore.

  • There's not much things to do during winter. Even though we do get a lot of snow, most cities and villages rely on summer to achieve a lot of activity and then get incapacitated by winter. Though, I got to say that they aren't slouch when it comes to winter activity, but I'm not interested to them at all since I'd have to deal with harsh winter conditions in first place.
  • My region is far removed from the entire province, making travelling a much more exhausting affair. This is especially due to how the Route 132 is designed in first place that is optimized for us to see the sea. There's isn't a single highway that allows anyone to skip from Rimouski to Gaspe. Instead, having to cross many villages and cities before reaching to the desired destination is a common occurrence.
  • The population is currently shrinking for the most part. My region is mostly populated by elders, while younger people who are born here are very likely moving away and are more hesitant on coming back. This leads to a vicious cycle, in which a number of issues will pop up, tarnishing further and further the appeal of staying in my region.
  • For someone who studied in Computer Science Technology, it's difficult to find a job that corresponds to my interest due of the lack of demand caused by the diminishing population. The best way to quickly get one is getting out of Gaspesie region.
  • People here are like a decade behind the mainstream culture. I feel like that I'm having a hard time to relate with many people simply because they weren't aware of that part of culture. I would have to give a lengthy explanation even for non-niche things, in which I'm simply too lazy for that.
  • The video game culture isn't any better. You won't find many self-proclaimed hardcore gamers, there isn't a single major video game retailer store on the likes of GameStop and the stores that do sell video game related stuffs pretty much only stock the most mainstream things. You will have to rely on Internet more often if you want to sink yourself for more video game shenanigan, and you end up paying more for getting them shipped.
  • The variety in services is shallow. A good example of this is looking at how many restaurants that specialize on a certain type of food. Outside of the few more well-known chains of Canada we have, they are few and far between. Simply put, you eat to live, not live to taste.
  • I couldn't stand my mother anymore. All she does is berating me for not having found a job, doesn't even try to make discussions any more deeper than scratching the surface, she think I'm still a teenager even though I'm an adult now and she always complain that she do all most of the work. She's also says the same thing over and over again, even though I already know it! And she doesn't even admit it. I become more and more distanced from her because of these problems, to the point of wishing I got a new home. She's pretty much done on taking care for me.

It's safe to say that I feel I don't belong to Gaspesie anymore, therefore I'm starting to consider moving out of there. Problem is, I don't know where should I really move. There's a lot of factor to take into account, so the move is easier said than done. With that being said, I'll get the thought processing to work and figure out where should I really move.
