Splatoon Tips for me please!

Hey guys
I recently got Splatoon and I need good tips. I feel like I'm doing pretty good, it's just my team loses most battles. EVERYTIME. xD. Anyone have any tips on how to get better? JSYK I'm a defensive guy.

What do you mean by 'a defensive guy'?

You only Ink around the base, or what?

What weapon are you trying to get good at? There's many different strategies for different weaps. Also if by "defensive guy" do you mean that you mainly focus on kills, do you stay back, or what do you do?
