Hi, I was asking for some help and was suggested joining here for some info.

I recently landscaped my clifftop pond waterfall area to be bigger. Now, I only catch regular river fish. Did I somehow do something wrong, or am I just having super bad luck?

I've caught a Cherry Salmon and Golden Trout before the expansion of the pond so it was working then.

I tried shaping it back to how it was, that didn't work, made it bigger again and added an actual pond (I know that isn't supposed to be how you do it but I wanted to try it anyway because I was running out of ideas.) It, of course, was just a regular pond.

I also made a second waterfall on the other side of the island that is also on the third elevation. Fish never seem to show up there. It has a lot of waterfalls and far less land. Is that confusing the game?

I've been struggling with this for at least a week now and unsure where to go. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Are you able to post screenshots of the rivers/ponds that you're working on? Perhaps someone will be able to see what's going on.

Gotcha, I will try and grab them later today/tonight when I can get on the Switch again. Thank you.

Got them. The first three are the area that was originally Clifftop Pond (River) (and I made sure to take out the stupid actual pond). The last two are on the west side of the map and the new giant waterfall I put in.

The west one never gets any fish, the east one now only gets the regular River fish and, as I said before, I had previously successfully caught Golden Trout and Cherry Salmon in that spot.

Like I mentioned. I'm just trying to figure out if this is a huge stream of bad luck or if I need to change more. Can you catch regular River fish in the Clifftop Pong (River) area? I haven't caught anything there but River for over a week. Is it my bad luck or broken? That's my biggest question.

You can catch regular fish in clifftop rivers. I've noticed that fish seem to appear in some areas more often than others. I think it has something to do with the size of the body of water, but I'm not sure. If you want to get extreme and test it, you can get rid of the rest of your water and see if that forces fish to spawn in your ponds. That's what I did on my island to make fishing easier.

In my experience, clifftop exclusive fish are all quite rare. So, if you're catching regular river fish, and not pond fish, then probably you have it set up right, just you haven't had good luck getting the rare ones so far.

thank you thank you thank you, The few people I'd asked had actually no idea about the Clifftop Pond fish so I was just sort of running in circles.

Thank you all very much!
