Me: Please... change your shirt... Your house is full of all the shirts I've sent... Why won't you wear any of them?
Villager:

I don't think villagers change their shirts if you send the shirts to them. Every time I've tried they don't, I have more luck just running around town with a shirt in my pockets and getting pinged for it.

That's... actually not a bad strategy. I might try that :lemon:

I've honestly had more luck mailing the shirt to them. I've tried filling my pockets with 100 bells and the one shirt I wanted Deli to wear, then hiding in the water for 5 minutes, running over to Deli and getting pinged, and it's still taken hours for him to take the shirt and wear it. And each time he does take the shirt and put it on, he always puts the old one in his house and replaces something else with it. It just doesn't seem worth the time and effort to me for essentially the same result.

I finally succeed in having them change their shirt... only to have them change it again a few days later. xD

I've given up on this eons ago for this reason haha. Luckily my villagers are all wearing the same two shirts that I'm fine with, otherwise it'd so bother me.

You want your villagers to wear the same shirts? That's the first time I've ever heard of someone who wants their villagers to have the same shirt. In fact, one of my rules in every AC game is that every villager has to have a different shirt

I'd prefer that they wear different shirts or even their originals, but for the risk of changing their house it's not worth it to me. I'm just glad they're wearing something I don't hate haha.

protip: trap all your villagers on a bridge

they'll start swapping shirts with each other like crazy

I remember in City Folk I would often dig holes around Nookingtons and trap everyone inside so they would have nothing to do but talk to each other. Glad to see this banned interrogation tactic neat little trick still has its uses.

Here's my way for makin them wear shirts, not my method, but has worked all but one time.

Send them 5 letters with the same shirt you want them to wear. Example, I want Fauna to wear the argyle knit sweater, so what I'm gonna do is send her five letters all saying 'wear this' (I honestly don't think the text matters, but I think it helps to have text in the letter) attach the five shirts to the letters, mail and BAM. When she receives the letters, she'll wear the shirt. But also display 2 or 3 in her house, but you can easily get them out/replace them.

I gotta try this tbh, thanks for sharing!!

This is very much what matters to me, ughh their shirt.
Not assured or anything at all but from experience, personally I feel like there always are a couple of "leader" villager in each towns. In my main town it's Lobo and Bree. In my second town, it's Flurry no doubt. When I give those leader-y villagers a shirt, I most likely to find other villagers wearing the same shirt I gave to leaders a few days later.
Friendship level affects anyways.

And, the alternative plan I use is making QR shirt and displaying it in Able Sisters. Actually this is much faster so far. The thing is, that not just one but a couple or a few more villagers will be going to wear the same design. Um.

Omg Flurry is the same exact way in Moriyo, she keeps makin animals wear ugly shirts cause she's wearing ugly shirts. She made 2 other animals wear the stupid vegetarian shirt, and this isn't the first time she's done this. She did it to Whitney also, who looked so pretty in the silk bloom tee I sent her ;_;

I remember in Wild World I put a rise against t-shirt on display in my Able Sisters and all my female neighbors wore it. They all looked like a bunch of fangirls. XD

Wait... that really happens? How do I even trap them LOL.

You could always design shirts and put them in the Able Sisters'. This way they won't swap the shirt with furniture.
