Unexpected Guest

One day I was happily watering flowers with my gate open waiting for a trade to happen, when a visitor arrives, with a different name than what the user had. I greeted them happily, as I did for all visitors. She gave a brief "hello" and quickly raced off into my town. I tried to follow her, I really did. Without walking. She tried to get rid of me following her by rushing around in circles, and running at full speed. When I kindly asked her to stop, she ignored me and kept running. Eventually I lost sight of this quaint visitor, and in the trails of her descent I followed. Hybrids were missing, items disappeared. Finally I caught up with her was when she was digging up a gyroid. "Excuse me. Can you please return the items you took?" I asked looking at her. She batted her eyelashes with the "shy" emote that Shrunk had given her. "I don't know the slightest thing you were talking about." That was it! Off the switch went. Just when the actual trader arrived, otherwise the items she took would have been hers.
All was returned and restored to its original state.

Beware and be careful of the visitors you let in

I developed a sinking feeling of despair whilst reading this, as I've read a lot of posts lately in which the author knew not of the switch trick... but you did! What a relief! I'm glad the items were recovered. :]
