When you have a battle mode that runs online like Basic Brawl, the problem of what to do with hidden characters arises. If one of your opponents chooses a character you haven

Hidden characters could be in opening cutscene before the title screen.

He means some people don't want to know what the unlockable characters are until they are actually unlocked.

I lucked out getting my secret characters. I randomly finished with 2 seconds left for Luigi and the first trophy I got was a Birdo trophy. I didn't even know Mushroom Kingdom 2 was unlockable until later.

Maybe, but you can never be sure until it hits store shelves, of course.
But I think you'd be right.

It just means he isn't going to "cry over spilled milk", essentially he isn't going to get too angry if people on the internet reveal characters, because you'll find out anyways.
