I noticed, as I am sure many others did, that in the trailer for the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model), the graphics and character models for Pokemon BDSP look improved, both in terms of lighting and also the models themselves (i.e. comparison of Lucas's bag textures).

I personally am very happy with the changes. This is obviously just a glimpse of what we could hope to see improved, and I was going to get the game regardless since Gen 4 is my favourite gen, but I am happy that the developer ILCA didn't just leave it as is like GameFreak did with Sword and Shield, and is actually trying to make the game more appealing.

Hopefully, these changes will extend to the lighting, textures and models in the overworld, but this is a good start!

They honestly look... basically the same to me. If there is an improvement, it's so minimal that it hardly registers at all. This is made all the harder when our basis of comparison is a direct capture versus a camera capture of an OLED screen.

Yeah look the same to me too, and honestly I don't really care, I'm just glad for a proper game rather than those swsh disasters.

lol Just saw the latest trailer for this game. What's up with the chibi models? Trying to drop nostalgia on us (but poorly executed)? Dang, I'm really not liking what I'm seeing. Also, the Poketch, again? C'mon, man. I love the lack of HMs in SwSh. Those HMs sucked, forcing us to force crappy moves on Pokemon that only Ash Ketchum would get his Pokemon to learn. Cut on a Greninja? Really, Ash?

Honestly people, I know you have your problems with SwSh and their so-called "hand-holding," but I consider it a QoL improvement. Some things don't need to go back! Stop holding onto your nostalgia and get on with the times! Yall treating like convenience's a bad thing. I don't want to go to some stupid move deleter every time I want a lousy move like Cut deleted.

I'm assuming you didn't see that the HMs are embedded in the Poketch app, and you get help from WILD Pokemon to use them, not your own. And the Poketch is there because that was the official device of the Sinnoh Region. They're not going to drop a Rotom Dex with the town map and everything when it wasn't in the original game.

Secondly, the Chibi models are completely up to personal taste. I'm replaying the Gen 4 games right now, and I'm happy with the route that they took. I wouldn't necessarily say it was poorly executed, but rather that parts of the fan-base aren't impressed. I have actually seen more and more people excited since the Overworld and models have been getting better and better (you will especially see this when you compare the very first trailer up until now).

Finally, hand-holding (in my opinion) is not convenient at all. I want a challenge. Lack of HMs is indeed convenient. Playing through a story that I could probably beat in a day with overleveled Pokemon is not convenient; it ruins the challenge, and frankly, I'm not the only one who thinks so. I like GameFreak's QoL improvements for competitive battling, but that was about one of the only new things they brought to the table for me that I actually enjoyed. So trust me, I am "with the times", and I'm fully allowed to think that Sw/Sh were extremely disappointing games. Don't even get me started on the N64 graphics.

Disappointing for you, maybe. I'm sorry others like me were having fun. lol

I mean, you're sitting there complaining about a game literally made for children originally, when you could very well go out there participating in VGCs and whatnot, or hey, just go play Dark Souls or something if you want a challenge.

Me, I'm kinda regretting now that I've pre-ordered this Nostalgia-fest for Pokemon fans, D/P. More money wasted. Probably will sell it away on Day One or something. I'll see.

And that's totally okay! But I don't think that gives you or anyone the right to tell others to "stop holding on to nostalgia and get with the times." We are allowed to want a different direction for the series the same way you do.

In fact, I'm happy GameFreak is taking risks with Legends: Arceus. So I wouldn't say I'm stuck on my nostalgia, but nice try :)

I just find it silly that people are so obsessed with putting down a game made for children that's made easier. It's like, you don't see me harping on and on in other threads about games or topics I don't like. If I don't like a show or a game, I simply move on. It just seems like Pokemon fans in general, generally the more hardcore ones like yourself, seems overly obsessed. I dislike the many reboots and remakes of my childhood shows, but I'd be darned if you'd ever catch me whining about the crappy Kim Possible live action remake even now. It's a memory of the past.

Like, even for Pokemon D/P. If I don't like it on Day One, I'll move on to the next game available. You won't find me sitting here complaining for the rest of the month, let alone rest of the year.

Even for Animal Crossing NH, I'm glad there's a positivity thread so that we won't be whining about the game's flaws all day.

I mean, I'm sorry if it feels like I'm attacking you or forcing you to do something, but it's just my stray observations. I'm just getting kind of a vibe from these complaints that reminds me of this guy:

But this thread was never made to bash another game in the first place. I wouldn’t say I’m overly hardcore. While I didn’t like Sw/Sh, I loved Moon, which was also very hand-holdy.

I don’t see how I was being hardcore when originally I was just observing the differences in graphics for BDSP, since GameFreak didn’t make changes for Sw/Sh. Call me “hardcore” if it really makes you feel better, but it’s a fact; GameFreak didn’t make changes, and that’s why lot of fans were upset. And that’s not including the disappointing animations that GameFreak assured were higher quality, which is why they cut Pokémon out of the game, only to have everything just ported over from the previous games.

You need to keep in mind that while it is a kids’ game, 1) adults make up the majority of their fan base and 2) almost all DS Pokémon games had some challenge, especially Sinnoh. Heck, B2W2 had a difficulty option when you beat the game. AND it was still a kids’ game. Always has been. You can make a kids’ game and still have options for your older fans who’ve grown up with the series. It doesn’t have to be a win-lose. It could easily be a win-win.

Well, technically, I was just making a passing remark off of Alienfish's SwSh complaint. Didn't really mean for it to turn into one huge bash-fest until you started commenting.

I mean, either one of us could've stopped replying to each other, but ego triumphs over reason.

Also if may add, it’s not complaining. It’s criticism. Criticism for a gaming company that is responsible for the games of the biggest media franchise in the world. You say you’re trying not to attack, yet you took a post about BDSP, made it about Sw/Sh, and now proceed to leave a rather rude Simpson’s picture to reflect my thoughts on the game. Much appreciated.

I mean, offense is taken, not given. I'm sorry you feel so offended. So much for being an adult, I guess...

We could continue with this back-and-forth if you really want to get back at me for offending you or something. You know, perpetuating what you're accusing me of - spiraling this topic somewhere irrelevant.

Looks cleaner than before. I'm still waiting for another trailer before I consider buying but this game will really bring back memories if decide to get it.

Yeah, maybe I'll update the OP at some point, but the newer two trailers that have dropped in the recent months have definitely shown improvement. I was actually very happy with the new lighting effects brought to places like Twinleaf town; looks much more natural and far less artificial.

It really looks good. Graphics aren't everything, obviously, but it already looks like love and care has been put into this game so I'm happy. Pokemon has been deserving this for awhile.

Exactly! I mean, my primary console is the Switch, I think that alone proves how little graphics mean in the grand scheme of things. But, it's at least refreshing to know that it won't be a complete eye-sore.

I'm just relieved that they won't completely botch Sinnoh. It's my favourite region :)

Hopefully performance wise, it doesn't lag much or isn't glitchy. Seeming that these games are made by a different company, I'm excited to see how these come out!
Sinnoh is my second fav (first being Hoenn) so I'm happy too! I hope they sell well so their efforts are rewarded instead of them cheaping out like they could have. Like, Pokemon reaaallllllly needs this.
