Using an amiibo card that is still wrapped?

Hey! I got the Redd amiibo card with my game, and I was hoping to sell it or trade it at some point. Can I scan it while it's still wrapped in plastic? I tried, but it didn't seem to work, so I'm not sure if it's not possible, or if I'm just doing it wrong. Thanks!

Mine worked in plastic wrap and top loaders so idk. Maybe it's a dud card

Could be a dud card. I had a dud Molly that wouldn't scan with one of my first packs. I Contacted Nintendo and sent it back. They ended up sending me a whole new pack of 6 (for free), since they couldn't do a card-for-card replacement

Are dud cards common? I haven't even scanned in all my series 1 yet ://

To be fair I would expect Nintendo to replace card for card. A free pack of cards is useless if you just end up with doubles after buying a ton just to get the character you want :/
