I've read a lot of threads about the island scam: A player arrives and starts a tour but doesn't sit down for it. Then waits awhile until you've caught some bugs and demands bells or items.

It never happened to me. . . until today, but this scammer didn't know what she was up against.

I was just catching a few bugs for the Bug Off on an international island. Some rare some not. I just wanted to get some bug furni. When a player named AI arrives on the island and immediately starts a tour. Then she comes outside and grabs a net. I know EXACTLY what you're doing.

I chased her around and scared off some of her catches (Something I would never do to another player normally.) then said, "End the tour." She replies, "No". To which I reply, "End it or I'll scare ALL your bugs away."

She promptly runs inside and cancels the tour. I put my bugs in the box then said, "Blocked yah! Have a good one!" Then I dropped the mic and left the island.

It just feels good to shut down a nasty little scam like that one.

ah why im kinda scared of the club
though if the scammer didn't catch bugs then idk you still would be able to do nothing
good one though ah

I remember having this guy following me when I was catching beetles on the international island (because it was daytime in my town), scaring off all the beetles I was going to catch. I just gave up and went on a tour to get away from him.

Then I would probably just run around annoy them. I can be stubborn in these kinds of situations. XD

But yeah I generally don't use the international/NA island to catch bugs for profit because of this scam, but I needed to catch some good ones for the contest, and it's day time in my town.

When I was held hostage, he came in, set up a tour and then went round cutting down all the trees. So, I couldn't have used this trick with him :(

I count myself pretty lucky I haven't had any issues like this. Though if I want bugs I just wait until the evening and catch them on my own island mostly, CT I use for the occasional villager request or tours.

I've never been scammed. Today a girl asked to do some tours and I said sure. After we'd done a couple alternating who chose, I chose to do a tour. She sat down, I sat down. Then she immediately stood up. I went on the tour on my own.

It's not a scam and I didn't lose anything. But it was embarrasing and I was kind of ashamed and felt betrayed. Like, it's common courtesy? But yeah, thanks for the advice! I now know what to do with scammers.

What's the island scam?? ; v ;

..can someone explain it to me please?

Oh, so that's what the scam is.

Unfortunately, this happened to me but I had no idea why the guy was doing it. He was Japanese, and only spoke Japanese to me. He started a tour but wouldn't sit down so I kept telling him to sit. When he didn't, I had to turn off my DS.

Now I know lol.
