I'm starting to really hate FB more and more because of the idiotic stuff people have to say. I get everyone has different views on things like race, gender, sexuality, politics, whatever. A lot of my friends don't agree with my liberal or feminists views; hell, they make fun of me for valuing the lives of animals as something more than food. But seriously. The dumbest stuff spawns on FB.

Take today. A "friend" of mine made a status talking about how racism against white people is comparable to women's suffrage/women's rights, slavery, and gay rights combined. How? I had liked the original status ("Racism sucks and shouldn't exist.") before she edited it to include her...views? I had to unlike it as it went on to and as her beauty school friends ganged up on a guy who called her out for her....*slight* ignorance. "I get tired of hearing about racism. It like, happens to everyone, ya know? No one cares." Her status started out great about how racism shouldn't exist and then it turned into "#whitegirlproblems," "don'thatemecausei'mwhiteandbeautiful," and "#colorblindandproud." Are you kidding me? And what makes it worse is all these people are backing her up and telling her how proud they are of her standing up and saying what everyone else is thinking. Um, no. Not everyone else is thinking that... The one person who bothered standing up to her (who was also white/white-presenting) was applauded by literally every non-white person on her friends' list. That shows not everyone has to agree with what you're saying. Even the white-half of me was shaking their head and feeling embarrassed.

I get everyone has their own views and opinions and that FB is a vessel to share that with people. But that was seriously some of the most bizarre crap I've ever seen on FB. How do you say you hate racism, wish it didn't exist, and then go on to be racist in your comments? I had no idea that the persecution of whites is comparable to the combined struggle of enslaved people, minorities, women suffragists, and the LGBTQ community. She was so satisfied with herself too, lo. "I make a difference because I don't see people's skin color." You can SEE someone's skin color, dear. Their skin color is very much a part of who they are and pretending that you're "blind" to that, is like, denying a part of that person. You can see a person's skin. But you accept it and not judge them or persecute them because of it. Boom. My boyfriend is half black; I very much see that he's not white. He sees my pasty white butt; it's a joke for us. Being colorblind and ignoring racism isn't progressive. But then again, she also said feminists were dumb for wanting equal rights ("Men are just better than us. I'm woman enough to admit it, lol.") and that she doesn't get why gay marriage is a big deal because "Who wants to get married anyways?" A lot of people want to get married, you idiot. I know you do because you've been pinning wedding dresses on pinterest so shut up.

I don't know. I usually don't care what people have to say on there but that status alone made me feel so irritated and I guess I just wanted to rant somewhere.

Do you have any friends with questionable views that kind of make you cringe? Do you say anything or just kind of hide the status? I just hid all her activity from my view because she's supposed to cut my hair this week and I don't really want to deal with seeing more of what she has to say beforehand.

The thing that make me cringe on my FB is relationship DRAMA like omg I don't care about your relationship. I don't understand why people need to expose their business on FB. I hate when people like pictures that are like "Give a like if you hate this, Give a like if you believe that, OMG LIKE THIS BC POOR PUPPUYBDIHBEWU" ugh. Also don't get me started with people tagging you with "Tag your friend if you love them" and get tag to like thousands of pictures omg; I am so done with FB.

Your friend sounds like a real idiot. None of her points made sense. Is there even any racism towards white people besides the word cracker? To ver racism white people have suffered is nocomparable to what women had to deal with. And um gsy and i want to get married so im offended by her comment.

My friend is an extreme Obama hater. Shes undrr the impression that he's a communist and a terrorist. She posts hateful things and i think it's disrespect ful and annoying

I apologize for the typos. My phone doesn't let me srr what I'm typing and its a pain to go back and correct it

Whenever someone of my fb friends says something racist, homophobic or anti-feminist, I just delete them as friends. :3

For your information, you can hide individual posts, types of posts, and also unsubscribe altogether from certain friends without deleting them as friends.

All of my facebook friends are either egostical, clpse-minded, self-absorbed or just plain old unlikeable. I only bother to keep in touch with family and crap

the people i have on facebook are actually pretty ok hah

most of what they post is ask.fm links, pictures with friends or a significant other, and status updates also relating to friends. there's the ocassional dramatic song lyrics status or overly affectionate picture but i don't really care. i don't think i've ever seen an opinion there

then again i rarely use it, i just leave it open in case someone talks to me

but this doesn't mean people keep their ****ty opinions to themselves, they just say them out loud or in person which makes it worse if you ask me. harder to pull yourself away and all

the first time my friends started saying their thoughts on those subjects i kept quiet, because i thought it would be a one time thing. however they say their awful views annoyingly often aaarrhgh. now i just insult them because nothing gets through their thick heads anyways, so there's no point in trying

I don't have a problem like that on FB, but tumblr, DEFINITELY. There are a lot of posts I don't agree with or range in opinion on. I feel like a lot of ignorance and misinformation is spread and passed off on there as factual, and if people took a small moment of time to research online rather than following one person's views blindly, it would make a whole lot of difference. Some opinions are so misinformed, they go beyond ignorance and are just plain horrible and insensitive. Sometimes if I'm in the mood for it, I will say something, but otherwise I just unfollow people who post political B.S. without anything to back it up, I don't want to see that on my dash. I just don't have time for that.

I know what you mean, Tumblr is like this at times too. I like fb more though because you can control your privacy and blocking is more efficient. I tend to stray away from extreme SJWs and just people of that nature. It’s an awful lot to grasp, and they’re so strongly engaged in their views, and its almost impossible to hold a conversation without them somehow bringing their intense beliefs into it in the most negative way possible or just being completely ignorant on what they're even talking about. I can’t believe it’s on FB now too though, because from my experience, Tumblr has way too many people like this, that it makes me uncomfortable. Your friend sounds like a huge headache. I’m sorry you had to deal with that :s. I tend to stray away from people like that to avoid any future aggravation.

I don't think I'll ever make an account, its kinda like Instagram but with more dumb people. Here's some idiots from Facebook, directly from /r/facepalm:

People have confessed to me on Facebook. . .
I just think you should do it in person but hey, i'm still getting the message right ヽ(;▽;)ノ
#pleasedontdatemeimterrible
But i have this girl on my friends list who is so freaking annoying and rude and it just BLARG.
Shes a very conservative church girl, and is always saying things like
"Omg, anyones whos an atheist is going to hell."
People like her annoy me so much. I'm a christian too but you dont see me going around and saying
OMG, YUR AEITHIST, I HUTE YU DURRR
And then the other day she said that all public schools should have christian values, such as never having sex before marriage, so thats means no sexual education classes. And then i said not everyone has the same religion as you, we should still teach kids protected sex so if they do have sex then at least its not unprotected. Her reply was
I'm so done with this conversation GOD.
Utghhghghghgghuilinudfviulndfginkvv
OMG SOMEONE HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ME AND PUT IT IN A POLITE WAY
HOW DARE THEY
God and i won't even start on the whole abortion discussion. Personally its my opinion that a woman should have the right to her body so i'm pro abortion. But when i posted this opinion on a picture of protesters against abortion that she shared she stared to yell at me about how its not in the bible, etc etc.
I just hate people who are so obsessed with their religion that they stuff it down others throats. Everyone is allowed to have their own religion and not be judged for it. Religion doesn't make you any smarter or any better than anyone. There are jerk faces of all religions.
One time she posted a status that said
I don't know why gay people are still protesting for their marriage, i mean its not a big deal.
URHGIOUNSTGOIHNBDTJOJNBIODTNGNBIOJNGB
i was so prepared to yell at her for her ignorance but then i just decided to just delete her so i wouldn't have to see her stupid statuses anymore -_-

Man I'm exactly like this with my friends when it comes to my feminist views. I feel you there. It's kinda like that here too. its okay, you're not alone.

i thought fb was dead anyway. its mostly like middle aged people using it now. 30s+

facebook can be pretty toxic, keep getting close to deactivating mine but i'm terrible at not losing phones so it's good for contacting people on

There's a reason I left Facebook, so thank you for reminding me!

Kidding aside, I'm pretty sure that I knew a white supremacist from high school, and his posts were always terrifying to read. I glance through my Facebook maybe once every few months for no reason, and I was sad to see that some people who I actually considered to be good friends posting similar kinds of stuff. I've been out of high school for only a few years, so it's nice to see that a few years of college have shaped up my friends so well!

I'm sorry that you have "friends" who are so ignorant and, more importantly, so inconsiderate of your feelings. Hopefully that rant helped some. I think that you have every right to care and be angry even if you think that you should be able to just brush it off and ignore them. It's not easy to ignore them or do the opposite and argue with them/stop being friends with them. I've tried to call out questionable views before and even more so now, but I just get yelled at for being "nitpicky" or, even better, being a "victim." Because the people who say, "[blank] is just the way it is! I can't do anything about it, so stop complaining!" obviously aren't the victims. I'd like to say that I'd start cutting off people from my life who do these things, but it really isn't easy, so I've mostly just been ignoring for now.

(I'll reply to comments in a second.)
The comments are still going. A girl (who is also white) who is a sociology major in ethnic and race relations is agreeing with the guy that everyone ganged up on. She is writing these eloquent, lovely, amazingly articulated statements on the matter and all she's getting is "LOL, STFU. OMG, I'M NOT RACIST. YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING." I can't take it. I wish I could just show you the whole damn conversation. Stuff like this makes my blood boil. They're not even trying to understand or listen. I hate this. It's like listening to a room full of people like my dad. Pretending hateful ugly things like racism or sexism or homophobia or just general injustice/hatred is disgusting. And to compare your every day struggles of being a self-proclaimed "white gurl 4 lyfe" as stated on your profile to the plight of people who were forced to work against their will is disgusting. The most trouble you had this week according to your timeline is the guy at the McDonalds gave you a medium instead of a large.

I could link you some arguments that she will lose against lol

I don't think they'll even bother reading, lol. They're trying to justify their statements by saying they can say what they're saying because some long lost relative on their dad's side was black. If that's the case, that relative must be rolling over tenfold hearing you spout your ignorance. It's like a tiny Klan meeting in that one status. Any voice of reason is met with an "Lol, omg, you didn't even read what I said. I'm indifferent to racism. We're all the same. We all bleed red!!!111 <3333 Racism hurts me too." I just want to be like how? How does it hurt you? It's killing me not saying anything. But I know once I start, I won't stop. There's horror stories in my family involving the KKK; my dad's a racist. I'm bi-racial dating a bi-racial guy; he wants to have kids. I don't want to bring a kid into a world like this when we get stared at by people when we go to the freakin' iHop. Racism isn't something you sweep under the rug and hope it goes away. Neither is sexism or any of those ugly -isms or -phobias. By acting indifferent, you're not helping anyone. You're not this big saint for saying you're colorblind to people and 'so over racism.' You're keeping yourself in the dark. It's just ughhhh. UGH. I don't even know why I care so much over the stupidity of this one person who I haven't seen since highschool over a stupid status on a stupid website; it was like a slap to the face though. It made it worse that some of my actual friends joined in and to know that's how they actually think makes me sad. I was always taught to stand up for what's right and this girl is saying that the best way to stand up against bad is to sit down and ignore it because "We're all the same at the end of the day."

Let me get my chubby butt off my soap box because at the end of the day, it's a stupid status and my being upset about it and the other people trying to be the voice of reason aren't going to change any minds of people set in their passive aggressive ways.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I really am. I don't know why I get worked up over things like this. I just do.

It's weird because it is for older people it seems like. My mum's FB is more active than mine, lol. But I don't have many friends to begin with so that might be why.
