ok so ive followed the guidelines to get my villager friendship rating up. i give them gifts everyday, some that i create and customize *lol* or some fancy fruits or tools and im able to now buy and sell from them, do their chores etc etc *no photos as of yet though* and speak to them all the time. im wondering if theres a way to get them to give you furniture instead of clothing? i got these items from them today *that i dont use Ever because i wear the wetsuit 24/7*
athletic jacket
fitness tank
wrestler uniform
guide shirt
pineapple aloha shirt *this ones kinda cool in a non athletic way*
puffy sleeved blouse
coveralls with arm covers
fragrance sticks *yay a real item!*
thankfully One of the villagers did give me something useful LOL! is there a trick to getting them to give cool things instead of clothing?

You're going to get those things regardless of your friendship level. The sheer number of baby rompers? Insane LOL. When you get up there in friendship level you'll often get flooring and wallpaper, and sometimes furniture, but the old tricks of getting furniture (via mail) by gifting them single fruit while having full pockets doesn't seem to work anymore. All you really need to do is gift them wrapped, stacked (2) non-native fruit or a wrapped single assessed fossil (big ones, those don't take inventory and they don't display them.) I avoid giving them anything that will take space in their limited personal inventories (though I do, once in a while, craft a wall item and gift spendy clothing on birthdays, making sure it fits their personality and color preferences.)

Just fruit got me all 10 villager pictures...though that last one took about 4 months. Every week or so I go through my own inventory and flip all the baby rompers and aprons and...pacifiers...at the store. Doesn't resell for much, but at least I'm not going to suffocate under 2,400 rompers.

Sadly the RNG is pretty bad when the game decides when you get the photo. Also you should try giving them Iron Wall Lamps but they need to be wrapped up in a gift. Trust me I've done this several times and I gotten Villager Photos pretty easily of course its still annoying because like the user above me said you're always going to get the same repetitive clothing, furniture, wallpaper, and flooring. From what I understand when you get to a Friendship level where they would start asking about wanting a Greeting you should be able to get the Photo.

From my experience it takes like about 2 weeks or 3 weeks to get a villager photo. Keep on talking to them every day and keep giving them gifts which like I mention is Iron Wall Lamps wrapped in gifts. It can take a while, but eventually you will get the photo again it has to do with the RNG of how villagers will decide when to give you their photo, its annoying but it is what it is.

Wrapped iron wall lamps every day for a few weeks are the way to go to quickly build up friendship points and get that photo (And a greater propensity to gift better items). It doesn’t necessarily have to be that particular item— any wrapped furntiure item worth over 2500 bells will do, but the beauty behind the iron wall lamps is that they are a) cheap and easy to build, and b) villagers can’t put out gifted wall items or carpeting, so their homes’ interiors don’t change.

That said, if you’re goal is better gifts in general, than yes, the RNG gods are not very forgiving, even after you have reached the highest levels of friendship with villagers. You will always get very odd, very banal gifts like wrestling uniforms and baby rompers from villagers. However, I believe at a certain point of friendship, more furniture items are thrown in (but nothing exciting that you couldn’t get at Nook’s).
