It was mentioned there would be no new personalities, but that the two villagers you start with also paid for the package and "have a right" to be there too.

I wonder if these two first villagers will be partial owners if in fact our player is in charge of the entire island, and not just development. It would be an interesting twist and maybe different villager types/combinations influence how your island progresses at the beginning. (I.e. maybe lazy villagers prioritize getting a restaurant/better food or snooty villagers prioritize more shopping for the beginning)

It would also be interesting to see if they make the characters more broad with their range of emotion rather than the repetitive super-cheery dialogue we got in new leaf.

Maybe each personality has certain pros and cons to having them on the island? such as a cranky villager maybe waking up extra annoyed and being less productive on the island for that day but also that they get annoyed with poor work some days and will increase productivity to "get it done themselves because xyz villager doesnt know what they're doing"

An opposite to that would be peppy villagers being able to wake up in an energized mood and working extra hard to help but some days they get distracted often by the sky, bugs, flowers, or random thoughts.

I just really hope they make interactions more... interesting. New leaf made me not want to talk to anyone after so long lol

Well we did see one of the villagers carrying around logs in the treehouse video, so there's a chance they do something useful with them? It'd be so cute if villagers could craft things and contribute to the island. So far we only know that they'll pay off their own debt.

I think I read somewhere that the villagers will gradually be building their houses also. So they will start in tents & as they pay off their own loans, move into houses, etc along with you.

I was slightly disappointed when I heard that they wouldn’t be adding new personalities for NH, so I really hope that at least the existing ones will be deeper developed. Whether it’s expanded dialogue options, autonomous actions/interactions, or a return to more “personality” for each personality - I just want to see a less shallow treatment this time around.

Aside from what you said, I'm really hoping for a deeper dialogue from villagers, potentially a very small backstory being unique to each one of them. I talk to my villagers a lot and I tend to have the same dialogue over and over again.

Yeah I hope they have more interesting things to say than just the same 5 stock conversations over and over. It got tiring in new leaf. I like how they pay off their houses and progress with you! Hopefully they'll feel like they're actually villagers with their own individual lives and not just npcs wandering around aimlessly.

I love these ideas. It would add depth to the different personalities and make them a little more distinguishable from one another.

In general, I really hope the dialogue is deeper in this game. New Leaf is probably my favorite installment in the series, but the animal dialogue is so lacking, so much so that it made the animals feel more like design pieces for a town vision than residents you should be looking after. Whether this means making cranky and snooty villagers meaner again (and having them warm up to you over time), or just adding more variety in what the villagers say, I want villager relationships to be complex and rewarding to build up. I think my biggest worry for New Horizons is that they're focusing so much on the design aspect that the villagers will continue to get pushed back until they're dull and lifeless.

With the unique backstories I hope they elaborate on each villagers goals and skills like from April Fools and villagers talk about their families and things like that

I've always wondered about this being implemented too. Why go through the effort of adding all that information in only for it to get used once? I'd love to hear about everyones childhood/family life. Like... what made each character snooty/peppy/lazy/etc?
