So I've given a villager a pair of glasses and they put them on display on an empty table. So I gave a different pair of glasses. They are now next to the other pair. So I've given countless items that go on tables. They've been replacing original items on other tables.

How do I get rid of these stupid glasses?

I just gave him a board game to put on the table and he put it on the floor where the amp was.
The amp is now where the glasses were.

Okay Eugene, you win.

ive had this same problem with my gifts messing up their homes. i found no way to stop it, or get them to change up their gift placement so i just quit giving them furniture items and started giving them non native fruits instead. oddly enough they Never get tired of getting fruit LOL!

I normally have a rule about not gifting villagers stuff they can put in their house, but Eugene looks too cute in the glasses I gave him to not have done it.
I've just decided that he must be a troll and that is now my headcanon for him

Honestly, villager house decorating is a pain. There's no real way to tell if they will put something in there or not.

However, furniture tends to stick to two things.

An item will only be placed if it can replace an item of the same size. A 1x1 sized item won't replace a 2x2 sized item.

Also, furniture will only replace items of the same category. Like a utility sink will replace a deluxe washer because they're both appliances. You can't get a standing lamp to replace a deluxe washer. (this doesn't apply to table top items).
