So this isn't really a guide, just some things I've noticed. Lots of people seem to have problems with villagers visiting/being invited over and leaving/getting them to leave. I just wanted to give my observations.

If you played New Leaf, it seems like visits work the same way they did in that game, with the added feature that villagers can do surprise visits now. The three kind of visits:

1. Villager asks to come to your house: from what I've played, this is the longest kind of visit. The villager wants to see every room in your house. Taking them from room to room and talking to them once in each room is the fastest way for them to leave, in my experience. They may or may not give you a gift or ask to play a game.

2. Villager invites you to their house: They may not play a game but if you walk up to any of their furniture they'll talk about it. Talk to the villager and they'll ask if you wanna buy something in their room. From what I've played, when you get to the point where they ask you to buy, you're free to leave. They'll also give you a KK song.

3. Villager randomly shows up at your house: The most annoying when you're moving furniture. They'll give you your island fruit or sister fruit and will play the high/low card game. They ask to leave sooner after the card game.

Other stuff: they don't like roaches, they'll leave immediately if you have roaches.
tldr If you walk to the front door and they still don't let you leave, try talking to them/playing a game/buying something/give a house tour.

Or, if you don't mind being a tad rude (which I don't, because they were rude to come in uninvited), just start to walk out the door. They comment that you're leaving and say that they should, also, then walk out right through you, leaving you home alone once again to return to what you were doing! 👌

True, but sometimes that doesn't work and they hold you hostage until you give them what they want.
