Villagers and headwear?!

I think it was last week (or two) that I gifted Diana a white bow and Cyd a black fedora hat, they both looked adorable in them! They actually wore them all day, so I was under the impression that meant they liked the items. My reasoning is that I’ve given Chops some shirts he refuses to wear, when I give him the shirt, he’ll change into it, but change right back to his original clothes almost immediately. So, I though them wearing the headwear all day meant they liked it, but fast forward to today and they haven’t worn them again ever since… both items are in their house as “furniture” pieces.

Do villagers only rotate through clothing like shirts or dresses and not headwear/gear? Have you given your villagers hats that they actually end up wearing later on?

Personally, I’ve only seen them wear the seasonal/weather head accessories such as rain caps when it’s raining.

As much as I hate clothing as furniture, I have some big regrets about gifts I gave.

I gave Biff a magenta sleeveless knit dress on accident (it was wrapped) and it was horrifying.

It's now furniture and I hope he never wears it. That piece of clothing reminds me of the virgin killer sweater (Google told me the name)..

But ultimately, I think they do? I gave Stu a pear hat and it was furniture for the longest time until yesterday he was just moseying around with it.

I've seen them wear hats I've given them, though it's not as frequent as clothes.

this is so weird but i got sherb off a nmt island, and i never gave him a thing.

i checked his closet, and he had a viking's hat in there that i gave a different villager... i haven't seen him wear it yet thank god but i think ill cry when he does

Diana likes Purple/Pink and Elegant/Gorgeous clothing. Cyd likes Black/Yellow and Cool/Active clothing.

Wait... are you talking about the sleeveless sweater dress? (It's one of my favorite items lol). I sure hope they do end up wearing them!

Have you tried visiting him during the evening or late in the day? I find that most of my villagers tend to go home as it gets dark.

The weird thing is that in my case, they wore the items all day... but who knows... maybe they like displaying them as furniture better

Thank you! Although I think this is a good guide and has some items that villagers will certainly wear, I don't know how accurate it is for other items.

The black fedora I gave Cyd fits both color and type, but hasn't worn it again. The ribbon I gave Diana only fits typing so chances should be lower, but I decided to check the typing and color for a dress I gave her... the dress fits neither criteria and she wears it often. It's the same for Zell I gave him a Green quilted jacket and he wears it every so often and it fits neither criteria .-.

Also, thanks for the furniture guide, the most surprising thing was the 24 clothing storage capacity

a sort of similar thing happened to me. i gave agnes a black giant ribbon maybe two weeks ago and she wore it for the whole day (and looked super cute) and then didn't put it on again and displayed it in her house. then suddenly this week i've seen her wear it on 3 different days, for the whole day, just randomly with different outfits.

That's good to know!! I sure do hope they end up wearing them again because they look adorable in them!

Yes, they'll cycle through hats that you've given them. I've given Muffy a masquerade mask and a tiara and she'll randomly wear one or the other of them. Sometimes she doesn't have any hat on at all.

I got Marshal from another persons town and every now and again I’ll see him wearing a top hat, an eye patch and a hawaiian shirt. At first I was mortified but honestly he pulls it off well haha. I’ve given a few of my villagers bows and other headwear and I haven’t seen them use it at all.

Gaston randomly wears the hats I gave him (A frugal hat and a detective hat), and today in the title screen, he was wearing a custom design hat I made! But he had no hat when I started. Boo.

My villagers wear them on and off. Like sometimes they change back to their original clothes but sometimes they use stuff I gave them. The parasol I gave Maple though, she always uses it now when it rains. She never used her old one anymore.
