Villagers wearing hats -- will they ever take them off?!

Bit of an unfortunate situation, but my brother gave Cherry a fedora as a gift because it was the only thing he had on him, and she is now wearing it as part of her everyday outfit – does anybody know if she will ever take it off?! He tried complaining to Isabelle but that just reset her shirt (now she’s wearing a Nook Inc. shirt and a fedora! This is a nightmare!)

On a totally unrelated note, if he was to get Cherry to move out of his town, could he then invite her back by amiibo card immediately? And would that effectively reset her to default items/clothing?

Pretty sure they take it off after a while. Could always give them something else, as well.

Complain to Isabelle about the way she dresses if it becomes too much. Pretty sure it defaults them

Thank you all for your support during this trying time! We'll try giving her a different hat when the option to give her another gift opens up. I actually just unlocked the tulip crown DIY which might be a better option!!
It's a shame that complaining to Isabelle doesn't seem to reset the entire outfit, especially now that villagers can wear hats. Although maybe they can't wear hats that were designed by players?

I've reported a villager to Isabelle to get this fixed, it just resets them to default and the villagers don't mention it so I assume it has no impact on friendship. I gave them an item and didn't realize they'd actually start wearing it for the rest of their lives.

Did that also take off accessories? We did already try reporting to Isabelle (twice) but it just reset the shirt and left the hat :'(

In my case it did take off the accessory which was the only non-default thing this villager had. An interesting side effect is that the accessory is now a furniture item in her house. Report them again and see if it removes the accessory. Report effects are immediate.
