Couldn't find anyone else online talking about it when Googling things like "villagers talking about face", it only brings up articles about "funny Animal Crossing villager conversations" or old ACNL face guides. My friend brought it up and I'm glad I'm not the only one annoyed by this.
I've been wearing face paint for a whole year and haven't changed it. Just eyebrows, like most people do. I didn't get this dialogue until one of the updates from January or February. I farm for photos. I move someone in, I talk to them and give them presents, and as soon as I get their photo, I move them out as soon as I can. Needless to say, I've seen just about every piece of dialogue in the game, and this hasn't showed up ONCE until after one of the updates from earlier this year, I think January.
I noticed the Snooty villagers doing it first, with a line something like "What is different... about your face? Well, I like it!". Lazy villagers will say something like "Are you going to keep your face like that forever?" or "It looks like someone scribbled on your face while you slept!". A Jock villager commented on my face too but I don't remember what he said. I don't talk to any of my other non-farming villagers (permanents... lol) so I don't know what other personalities have to say, but my friend said just about everyone on their island has said something at some point.
I will move in a brand-new villager who should KNOW I have face paint on, I will visit them the next day, and they'll say "Wow something is different with your face isn't there?" even though I have changed NOTHING for a YEAR.
What's up with this? It's annoying. I talk to my villagers 5 times (the limit you can talk to them in one go) and every time they bring up my face ONCE. Whenever I talk to someone they always bring up what I did the previous day, ask me what my second file's favourite food/movie/etc is, and they say something about my face. Remember when villagers would talk about how often you're wearing an article of clothing? Do they still do that? I've been wearing the same exact outfit for weeks and haven't gotten a comment about it. They only want to talk about my face.
