Honestly, I've seen a surprising amount of people talk about how disappointed they are on the villager's dialogue. Imo, dialogue in this game is far better than NL and is on par with Wild World. I don't think it's GCN level good, and it probably never will be, because GCN had very little features compared to other entires, so it's staple was always going to be its amazing dialogue with villagers.

However, NH not only does have better dialogue compared to NL and on par dialogue with WW and CF, the villager interactions are considerably better than all previous entries. I mean, for crying out loud, just look at YT videos and compare NL dialogue with NH dialogue. NL villager dialogue had like 2 options which they'd repeat extensively (and often very short). In NH you get way more dynamic dialogues, with villagers asking questions for you, etc. It's very reminiscent of what WW and CF were like. Also, NPC dialogue is also pretty good. Look at how improved dialogue is with Blathers.

As for the interactions, I mean, for one, they seem more alive than other games. They can sing, eat food, gather items, catch bugs and fish, run around the island, etc. I'd love they bring back hide and sick from NL (I can't remember if other games had it as well).

The dialogue is programmed to be almost pointless the first 5 days. Villagers will say something pointless and walk off, and get mad all day long if you try talking to them again after about 2-3 times in a single day.

It's not all about friendship, (though gifting is) as I've had villagers who just move in be more vocal, and ask favors. You just have to get past the 5 day mark.

I have to agree, the dialogue I've found is really funny at times and well thought out. Sometimes they'll repeat what they said but I've seen this in all AC games, even GC.

Also agree nothing can come close to GC's dialogue because there were no boundaries back then and calling you fat and an idiot and a waste of space wouldn't really be a good idea for an AC game of today.

But I love how full of life they are, I really think the dialogue is better than NL's (so far, it might get repetitive down the line though). WW dialogue was also very good but I've not played enough NH to compare it yet, but it does seem really good so far!

I agree. It feels like there's so much... more the characters say than in New Leaf. At least that's been my experience so far.

the dialogue was fairly bland at first but now that i’ve gotten to the point where my villagers don’t tell me off after only talking to them 2-3 times, the dialogue is pretty nice :3

I re gifted something to bangle she gave me like... 2min prior and she reacted to the fact I did that so I mean yeah, the dialogue is definitley way better than NL :p

I love how villagers can sing, I was so confused at first but when I saw that Ava was the one who was making all of that noise I was hearing I thought it was absolutely charming! I also love when the villagers will zoom around the island, the other day Maddie was doing it and she stopped, and then ran right into me xD

I love how the villagers are much more animated this time around! It makes them feel much more alive, and is 100x better than them aimlessly standing around and waiting for you to talk to them again. The dialogue is absolutely amazing, and they feel unique. I mean, we even got Blathers rambling again!

Right!!? I heard Lolly start singing the other day and swear I almost had a meltdown. There's so many little things they added that make the characters feel more alive.

i totally agree with this! the dialogue is much more livelier in this game compared to new leaf, and it actually gets me reacting to it. like when dom was moving out, he said that i should "work on my push ups, in fact, do push ups right now". i laughed when i saw that; the dialogue, even when asking to move out, is entertaining

I have a stone statue that I put up, and I caught Merry taking out her phone to snap a picture of it - it even had the little shutter noise!

I agree that the dialogue, actions and animations of the islanders are much improved and can't wait to experience more as my island fills up with different personalities!

I agree completely! It really bothers me when I keep reading about how bad it is, because it's actually great!

Sparro gives me clothes all the time and he remembers exactly what he gave me. Every day I wear something from him he comments and/or gives me new accessories to "match"

Freckles physically turned around, looked at Reneigh's house and said something like "Hey, have you seen Reneighs house yet? That girls got style.'

Yesterday I watered all the flowers in my town and in the evening Marina said "Don't think I didn't notice how much work you put into watering the flowers. I really appreciate it and I know they do too!"

So not only does the dialogue get very good, there is also a more tangible friendship scale and villagers notice and remember things.

As I mentioned before, the game forces bad dialog the first 5 days. If anyone time traveled, they would have had instant access to the good dialogue.

The reason you see a lot of us complaining about it is because those who played the 5 days without TT'ing didn't know it gets better. Of course, there were a few kind souls who let us know it gets better, and it did.

the villagers are definitely more lively and active than in previous games, and im so grateful for that. last night i saw mira have 2 conversations with other villagers and i listened in on them; they were actually really cute. im a bit upset that it seems like for overbearing personalities like peppy and jock, i feel the need to only have one of each of them. they both kind of fit into a specific niche that would seem odd if i had more than one (especially in the peppy's case, i dont want to have 2 popstars in my island and cause drama after all).

i feel like people only say that the villagers suck because during the first few days there wasnt much for them to say? like in acnl, the first 2 or so days the villagers just constantly give u tips. that wasnt rly the case in this game, but the dialogue did repeat quite a bit. but after befriending my villagers, they've definitely upgraded their conversations lol

i also noticed that the villagers are way more observant? like whenever i talk to mira she usually notices something about my outfit, and she'll talk about it and perhaps give me something to "match" it. when i talk to tucker, he like to talk about how kody's house seems off; one time he mentioned that near his house and looked towards it!! kody talked about the bonfire when he was right next to it, and also looked at it as well. mira noticed that i picked the beaches clean of shells on night, and hit all the rocks in my town. they just know things now, and that's really cool. it makes them seem like theyre actually a part of the island, and that they're forming their own community and stuff.

Over time they have started giving me way more complex dialogues and I really really love it!!!!

I can’t find any problem with how the dialogues are.
And maybe it gets better with the updates...

I don't tt, (just upgraded RS today) but I play hours every day and talk to my villagers like crazy. By day 2 or 3 the dialogue was already greatly improving.

I don't TT at all and I saw the dialogue improve considerably, and it's really good, even within the 5 day mark.

And by talking to my villagers like crazy, I mean like seriously a lot. When I still had two villagers I would talk to one until they were "thinking", go do the same with the other, and then the original villager was ready to talk again. I would go back and forth a few times in a row.
