Mrrrroooooow! T-Treasure...
As the title of this post suggests, my town does have a theme that I'm trying to follow, which I never had tried to do in any of the other Animal Crossing games that I've played (then again, I never played any of them as much and as long as I have played New Leaf). I'm a huge Dragon Age fan; when I recreated my town (since I started one two or three Christmases ago but stopped playing it after maybe two days worth of playing it) in February or March, I named it the first thing that popped in my head (I have trouble coming up with my own names for things--college paper titles, video game characters, locations, etc.), which was Skyhold (or something related to Dragon Age). I started playing New Leaf again around the time I decided to take a break from playing Dragon Age: Inquisition (I was playing it almost non-stop after it was released); that is why I picked Skyhold for my town's name. Other than naming my town after a location in a Dragon Age game, I wasn't planning on making any other references to the game.
Another thing I wasn't planning on even attempting, was making any of my own designs. While it certainly looked fun to try out--seeing other Animal Crossing players' awesome and very creative designs, I didn't think I could do much with the design feature of the game; plus, I have no artistic skill (drawing, using any kind of art program on the computer, etc.) whatsoever. After, awhile, I though I'd try making a flag; since I named my town after the headquarters of the Inquisition and the Inquisition had its own heraldry; I thought it'd be very appropriate to at the very least, have a design that resembled something related to Skyhold in Dragon Age.
After creating the flag, I decided to try incorporating more concepts from Dragon Age: Inquisition into my town; I created more designs (I'll post screenshots or QR codes to them later); found furniture that could go well with a medieval theme (since the game's setting seemed to be heavily influenced by the medieval period in Europe as well as European culture itself); and during the time I was working on getting a HHA score of 150,000 points, I managed to make a room look like a room in a building in Dragon Age: Inquisition--accidentally at first. It was difficult to come up with my own ideas of how I was going to follow a Dragon Age theme. Fortunately, I found another player and their blog, who based her town name and excellent designs on Dragon Age. Seeing her designs and visiting her dream town helped encourage me to continue what I have been doing.

This is Amanda, the mayor of Skyhold; she is known by some of the villagers as Inquis, which is short for "Inquisitor." I designed Skyhold's flag (it is my very first design), though the logo belongs to Dragon Age just as the name Skyhold belongs to it; it's a Inquisition--a blade in the middle of an eye; (click on the links if you're interested in understanding what I based my town's name, flag, and what I based the mayor's nickname off of). The outfit is the second design that I made; it's based on one of my mages' knight-enchanter armor in Dragon Age: Inquisition; she's also wearing Hero's Boots.

As I had mentioned in my post for the "Post Your Town Map" thread, the only reason I chose this map was because I wanted Re-Tail on the same side of river as the town hall was. Now, I regret that I chose this map; part of the reason is because the northeast part of the map. In the northeast corner of my map is Hamlet and Paula's houses; even without their houses their, the area is too cramped to have anything built there (something can be put there, but I wouldn't like how it'd look and how I'd sometimes have to squeeze myself past any villagers that would be there at the same time as me).
Town Development Progress
I did not plan ahead of time where I wanted to put my public work projects or my trees/plants; I personally think my town looks like a nightmare. The only thing I planned was getting all the hybrids I wanted before I start moving the flowers and arranging them better. Also, it wasn't until a month or so ago that I realized running causes the grass to deteriorate. I don't know how to explain why it is difficult for me to plan where to put things before I actually do it; I hope it'll eventually look nicer. Even though I am registered with the Dream Suite, I admit I am a little embarrassed about how my town looks; my house isn't looking the way I want it to look for myself and for people who visit my town/dream town to see. Having just recently finished the Rustic HHA theme challenge, I'm finally starting to arrange my furniture the way I want to, though I have very little of the furniture that I might want to use.
