I've scoured the FAQs and threads because I hate to be "that one newbie", but I can't find anything explaining this...
How does the Wifi ratings work? I have a pretty good reputation on another forum, and I'd like to get established on TBT, but since it's more gimmicky, I'm having trouble getting started. Any tips?

Your reputation "On another forum" doesn't matter here. You get ratings by trading and basically being nice and not scamming others. Pretty much, if you follow through correctly, you're good.

Do you need to know how? If not, I'd say just do a bunch of trades in Re-tail and The Villager Trading Plaza. Don't scam anyone and you should build reputation rather quickly.

...
I wasn't saying that as if it mattered, merely that I knew how forums worked, though this one is a little more complicated. I'm here looking for tips, not a condescending reply irrelevant to my question.
I was asking how Wifi ratings worked, like how to give them to other people, etiquette, and such. Of course you get them by "being nice and not scamming others"; I didn't think that you'd get them by being a jerk or ripping them off.
I wasn't asking whether I should be a decent person or not, I was asking for tips regarding the mechanics of this website.

EDIT: That was in reply to Fireninja1. Yes, please, I need to know how, exactly! :)

On how to give them:

After a trade, whether it be item or villager, you'll go to the person's profile and click the Wi-Fi Rating

You'll then click submit feedback for user and fill in the details. If you were visiting their town, it'd be visitor; having them come to your town, it'd be hosting, etc. If you had an overall nice experience, you'd put +1, -1 for bad experiences (being scammed, etc.) I've never used the neutral rating and I don't think most do. You can then add an additional comment, most just say thank you or state what the Wi-fi rating is for, i.e. "Bought roses for them, thank you!" and then just click Submit.

Hopefully that explains it well enough. ^^;;

Thank you so much! ^^ That's really helpful. I was like, do I... click the number? O-o
Anyway, thanks a lot. :)

(Newbie here too) my understanding of wi-fi rating would be this:

- when you have a trade (items/villagers,etc) with another user, and that involve exchanging of FC and actual connecting your devices with each other, that qualifies for a wi-fi rating for that transaction.
--> Not how good/bad the 'real' internet connection is. As it's common to have disconnections.

- Always click on a user's profile to check on their wi-fi ratings AND feedback comments before considering a trade.
Or look under that use's sidebar, under their avatar you should see a section "Wi-Fi rating: x %" (that won't show in the TBT Marketplace or General discussion though, only in the Re-Tail forum)
If it's less than 100%, you might wanna see why that is. Let the rating speak for itself.

- Leaving a wi-fi feedback after a trade is *not* required. (In my opinion, it's just basic courtesy to always leave a feedback, but that's just me)
Others may or may not leave you a feedback after a trade, and of course, you can PM them to remind/request one from them, but there are always some users who will not bother to leave feedback for others.
This may be a tad difficult for new members who are trying to establish their rating, but yeah.

Hope this is somewhat helpful! Welcome & Have fun!! ^__^

Oh, thank you too, Maruchan.
I'll probably go peddle some trinkets (with underlying motive...) later. :) Thanks a lot!

I'm not going to answer your question since I'm fairly sure that you know how by now, but I think after clicking on here after pure curiosity I've seemed to have opened up a coven of glorious.
I favour (though not exclusively) articulate, eloquent people like you. Are you British perchance?
(I'm turning on my unlazy mode right here because I'm on a high of hot chocolate and marshmallows)

If you are referring to me, then I'm afraid to answer, I am not.
I am American (by geography) and Asian (by ethnicity).
I love languages, however, and am a polygot. I find that, through learned proper grammar of foreign languages, an individual naturally ameliorates ones own way of speaking.
Except with friends. With close friends, it's still herp derp blerp. =u=b

Ah, whoops. Sorry if I seemed rude or anything, sorry for missing the point too lol.

How strange! By geography and my citizenship, I am British, however, I am also Asian by ethnicity.
I'm totally the same with my friends. I find it easier to type than to talk, as by the time I've got half a word out my mouth they're generally on another topic. I reserve my uppity hoity-toity language for the company of males. In real life, that is, though it comes out quite frequently here on the internet.

Oh yeah, definitely in real life. Mainly in correspondence with professors or my PI, I use the "uppity hoity-toity" grapholect. I guess I was a little more reserved than usual. I hate being a forum newbie. The last time I was on such a highly populated forum was probably GaiaOnline, and that was a lifetime ago.
And I agree, typing is easier than talking. I can type pretty rapidly, but talking fast leads to an increase in volume, and overlapping speech... and ends up in a 5-way screaming match. Hahaha

Sorry to cut this short. Thread snowballed. Keep up with each other in other threads and/or pm! This is the HQ! I'm glad your question was answered though. If you need any more help, please feel free to use the information desk for questions!
