Okay so I know I've been relying on the Iron Wall Lamp wrapped gifts and I recently learned that gifting non native stacked fruit in wrapped gifts are one of the things I learned that can give you better chances of obtaining their photo. Now I have to wonder what else can I give them to increase it?

The thing is its so hard to tell if you're at a "best friend" level with your villager since the game has no way of keeping track of how much your villager really likes you and sometimes I wonder to myself "Am I getting closer?" or "Do I need to keep gifting them more and more?" I sometimes use more of the non native stacked fruits as a way to do, but then I kinda wonder what else I can give them that will make them "Like it so much".

So what I am trying to ask is are there any other items I can give villagers to get a better chance of getting villager photos other than Iron Wall Lamps and Non Native Fruits?

Personally, I gift them clothing they like when I first get them. Than swap to wrapped fruit. The fruit is nice because it both raises their friendship AND has a chance of getting a photo back. So, even if I'm not sure where my friendship is at, at least I know it's going up when I gift them that.

Gift them antique chairs, Cytrus bathtubs, or high end radios

Gift wrap, and give them those, after awhile you'll get a photo. Works really well, my villagers have so many antique chairs

Only if you have lots of bells though.

Otherwise I'd just keep being nice to them. I had static for like two days, and when I brought him medicine he gave me his photo. Just be nice to them

The only issue with clothing is that I don't know what color or style they usually like. Sounds like I may have to look up a guide on this depending on which villager I have and what their personality likes the best.

Alright I'll keep that in mind.

Here's the link I use!

Go under "Villager Gifts", put in their name, and select so that it matches both color and style. Boom, perfect gifts! And, from my experience, a lot of the clothing they like also looks cute on them. I don't really think it's possible to give them clothing that they absolutely hate and hurts friendship, though, but this guide shows stuff they're guaranteed to love (though sometimes their dialogue is a little weird, sisterlies sometimes say "it isn't REALLY my style" or something like that even if it 100% is, but they can be kind of aloof like that)

The way I do it is I'll make a ton of iron wall lamps one day, and gift wrap them all. Then when I'm trying to restock for my shop by either farming Redd, Flick, either Gulliver/Gullivaaar etc, I'll be mass gifting my newer/rotating villagers iron wall lamps. Talk to them once each day, then gift them the wrapped iron wall lamp. Of course this is still the same way, just mentioning that obviously TT'ing helps a lottt time wise haha

Well alright thats great but what about the furniture? When I searched like "Kabuki" (since thats the one I have on my island that I still need to get their photo) I didn't see any furniture they would like. All I see was that they like "Red" and "Purple" and most of it was clothing.

Yeah thats what I've been doing all the time, my only issue with Iron Wall Lamps is that they take up a lot of Iron Nuggets and Clay and it can take me a long while to grind by going to so many Nook Islands and hitting a lot of rocks just to get them, so that can be time consuming.

As far as I know, any gift over the minimum sell value of 750 bells, has the same chance of obtaining a photo. No matter what the villager’s apparent reaction is.

fruit, sea shells, pumpkins (3), bamboo shoots (3), any should work.

the main reason I know of that people prefer fruit is:
1. it is easily renewable (personally I like to give 3 coconuts per day for this reason).

2. it does not cause the villagers to be considered ‘gifted’ - fruit/ pumpkins, and
crafting materials (incl. sea shells, ) will not be add to the villager’s inventory. Anything else, including wall furniture like iron wall lamps will, which is why they fell out of favor as a daily gift.

If you don’t care about making your villagers gifted (there is a small chance of their furniture disappearing, once the inventory fills up) then it really doesn’t hurt to give them wall lamps.

If you look on nookipedia you can find a list of the clothing styles and colors villagers prefer. They do not have preferred furniture styles.

Clothes will build friendship levels, but if it sells (to the nooklings) for less than 750 bells, then you cannot get a photo back in exchange (you can also find sell values on nookipedia).

AH, okay. Yah, it doesn't list furniture... I don't know if it's because most people don't seem to want to gift furniture (it's always a gamble if they'll display it or not, and a lot of people don't want to "ruin" their houses by gifting furniture, thus hurting their resale value or whatever) or because they don't have furniture preferences. Like I said, I just do clothing gifts (that's actually less about raising friendship and more about giving their wardrobes some variety) and then fruit, so I wouldn't know about furniture. Though every time I HAVE gifted furniture, it's been well-received, even if they don't end up displaying it.

Oh I didn't know about the Coconuts. Man I didn't even think about that. I'll have to start planting more of them on my island.

Well for me I don't really care about their home getting messed up, all I care is getting their photo so I want to know what is the best furniture item that they will like the best? I already did Iron Wall Lamps but I find that its using up so much Iron Nuggets and Clay and its getting so time consuming just crafting and grinding the materials to make them.

I don’t know why but for some reason it does not bother me as much seeing my palm trees without coconuts as it does for my other fruit to be picked, and that is why i tend to use those. But that’s probably a weird personal 😅
I think anything pricey, as sort of messed up as that sounds, they will like. Also I believe the shell furniture would probably be pretty popular. And since there are always so many shells maybe that would be easier? (It looks like all the shell furniture but the stool sells for over 1000 bells.)

I think you can also give wrapped giant clam shells.

many of the seasonal and hybrid flower wreaths I think are also good!

good luck! I hope this is helpful for you!

Alright thanks and thanks to everyone else who helped out.

I give my villagers 3 wrapped pumpkins everyday and have had really good results. The good thing about pumpkins is you can plant them right next to each other, they’re harvestable every other day, and they come in different colors so you can match your decor if you want. The downside is my rhythm sometimes gets messed up if I forget to water and don’t get the full 3 pumpkins-per-plant.

Well they must be watered every single day in order for the pumpkins to be grown into a 3 pumpkins per plant. I barely used pumpkins but now that I know they are useful for gifting I will start using them.

I find giving one wrapped giant clam to be easy and effective. It's easy to obtain a lot of them each day and only needing one per villager (rather than multiple per villager like with fruit) is nice.

So far What I know: Link here

I go with the “4. 250+ selling price gift but full inventory afterwards (Fruit Stack Trick) = +points based on gift given, return gift mailed to you next day and can include photo, +points on return gift based on friendship level”

Fruit stack trick is the warped 2 none native fruit, like you already know. I also heard the diy floor, wallpaper, carpets will also do the trick.

unfortunately the fruit stack trick no longer works with fruit, as of one of the updates earlier this year. The trick works with giant clams or anything where each individual item sells for at least 750, but will no longer work with fruit. There was a thread on here which previously kept updated on changes to the gifting mechanic but it is no longer maintained. The OP was removed, but if you go to the last couple pages of the thread you can see that discussion:

Just FYI. (this could have changed in subsequent updates this year, but I have not heard that it has)

Thank you for letting me know, I didn't know that. Really confusing because the fruit trick is how I got my photographs last month😅

it is possible it was mistakenly removed and later ‘fixed’ I just really don’t know and so wanted to put out the information I did have. If anyone can verify the fruit stack trick works again that would be great for many people, as I know it was popular.

personally, I really like receiving the photo in person from my villagers, because it just makes me happier for some reason.

!!
ohhhh….I may have misunderstood your original post - the fruit stack trick was a name that used to be used when giving a villager a single fruit from an unwrapped stack while having full pockets. Because they cannot gift you anything in return, they will mail you something. That is what no longer works with fruit.

wrapping together stacked non-native fruit or pumpkins of bamboo shoots does still work.

sorry if that is what you meant in the first place, I just saw the thing about the inventory being full, and that the link showed pictures of the old friendship guide which introduced the fruit stack trick (full inventory one, unwrapped fruit one)

Wait so its possible to send wrapped gifts in the mail? I thought I remember someone saying that sending letters to villagers doesn't increase their friendship? I don't ever see them sending their photo in the mail. All I keep getting from them is the same furniture and clothing that they always give me. I heard once in a while they would send you real/fake statues or paintings and other times it could be fossils, but never once I never gotten a photo from them in the mail.
