What are some better ways of obtaining Villager Photos?

Wait so its possible to send wrapped gifts in the mail? I thought I remember someone saying that sending letters to villagers doesn't increase their friendship? I don't ever see them sending their photo in the mail. All I keep getting from them is the same furniture and clothing that they always give me. I heard once in a while they would send you real/fake statues or paintings and other times it could be fossils, but never once I never gotten a photo from them in the mail.

After her birthday, I got Dotty's photo in the mail the next day. So maybe if you bring them a gift for their birthday they love, then they send you their photo.

I read on here, that someone got Judy's photo the same way

Kid Cat pretty much only sends me fossils for the most part, Genji sometimes too

I no longer do the iron wall lamps/hanging terrarium. Waste of precious iron nuggets. I just gift them wrapped and stacked 9 pumpkins. Doesn't affect their furniture at all. Giant clams are also great but it's more rare.

Also, if given a chance to play treasure hunt, especially if you feel like you're already good friends with them, play it. I've gotten several villager photos that way.

The thing is its so hard to tell if you're at a "best friend" level with your villager since the game has no way of keeping track of how much your villager really likes you and sometimes I wonder to myself "Am I getting closer?" or "Do I need to keep gifting them more and more?"

you've probably seen these set of images but just in case you or some people haven't. basically one of the only indicators you get if you're on photo-getting friendship levels with someone is if they ask to buy something off you. I also heard somewhere that if they give you wallpaper in return after you gift them you're pretty close to getting their photos but I can't find a source for that. Nevermind I just found this;

These are kinda old (just recently a year old to be exact) but unless updates have changed some things, they should still be accurate. Personally I just stack 3 of the same foreign fruits together, wrap them up and gift them away after talking to my villager once, so far I've gotten 8 photos by doing this without time travelling since Feburary, so if you TT the process should be faster. If you know you're on level 5 or 6 with a villager you can try resetting if they don't give you their photo after gifting them, heard that worked for my friend.

Wait nvm, went back and you were looking for furniture, hmm.. I actually don't think they have furniture preferences? Maybe besides colors but I don't think furniture have, like, styles? It shouldn't matter too much if you give them furniture or clothing as long as either is over 750 bells in sell-price they should like the gift regardless.

I was more so hoping that the first image helped you a bit on telling you where you are with a villager friendship-wise since in op you sounded like you were confused about it.

Well yeah I was confused because again its hard to tell if you're best friends with the villager or not. I guess I have to count how many "points" according to the screenshot I saw will count, but I am not sure if what I give the villagers will work. I think someone told me that they gave their villager an Antique Chair and apparently it worked for them. So what I did earlier was I ordered a lot of Antique chairs, wrapped them up in gifts, gave it to Kabuki and guess what by some miracle I got his photo. So I guess maybe Antique Chairs are one of the furniture items that villagers actually do like.

Yeah so I am not really sure I guess I will just keep going on until I actually get their photo. Someone also mentioned that if you're at their birthday and give them a wrapped gift there is a chance you can get their photo in the mail. I do time travel so I always have to look up what birthdays the villager dates are on so that way I will know, but it seems like when you do that you get like "8 points" I think which is already higher than when you give them non native fruit wrapped in gifts so thats something that I have to keep in mind.

Just to clear up the confusion I am still looking for other items that can be useful to give the villagers for and the reason why I stopped doing Iron Wall Lamps is because its so long and tedious to grind materials and craft it.

Alright so I can officially confirm this, that you can actually get your villager photos in the mail, only if you give them wrapped furniture (antique chair or iron wall lamp) and stacked fruits wrapped up in gifts on the day of their birthday. You have to wait until tomorrow and then eventually when you look inside your mail and get the present they send for you, you will eventually get their photo. I have screenshots to prove this:

About the method mentioned previously, it is meant for you to gift the villagers in person, then receive their return gifts from mail box (because they can't give you items when your inventory is full, so they will mail it)

The return gifts villagers send to you from mail has a chance to give you photograph (if you reached the friend ship level), and the rate for getting a photograph from "mail" is calculated separately from "in person" return gifts.

BUT, I just also saw friends here commented the game updated and things could be different.

I don't know if this actually helps or increases your chances, but I just give a wrapped fossil to a villager that hasn't given me their photo yet every day (I started this like 3 months ago) and I already have like 5 photos, so take that as you will

I have had very good luck with gifting three gifted wrapped pumpkins to villagers each day. Pumpkins are super easy to grow, and they grow in threes if you water them.

I realised I wasn't giving them the right gifts (I didn't know just one pumpkin wasn't enough) and tried the Giant Clams today. I got three villager photos in one day!

The quickest way I got photos was wrapped assessed fossils. So as soon as I get a duplicate, I wrap and keep in my pocket ready to give someone. I got 8 photos very quickly this way.
