Off the top of my head, Bob and Marshal come to mind, but what other villagers are the most popular?

there’s quite a bit of villagers that are considered popular; bob, marshal, merengue, the octopi, lolly, beau, fauna, raymond, audie, etc

i feel like some of them are mainly popular for their design being cute but others such as raymond are popular because of how unique they are

Stitches, Merengue, Julian, Genji, Marina, Francine, Tangy, Punchy, Lucky, Rosie, Tia, Lolly, Diana, Chrissy, Ankha, and most of the wolves are popular.

It's purely because their design is cute or interesting.

Raymond hands down, at least at with newer or less serious players. It’s mostly because the older players put up such a high demand for him in the beginning plus the fact he couldn’t be obtained through amiibo. And then there the whole thing that people would talk about him because his prices were so high and new players would hear about him more

i personally feel like bob is the ultimate final boss.
his popularity is solid within the fandom considering he's in every single game series. i see old and new players love this guy.
marshal debuted in new leaf and has definitely been one of the it boys but he's still a new favorite compared to bob, if that makes any sense i won't even try to touch on the raymond topic either. he's a phenomenon but we'll see how long he can hold his popularity.
