What does ungifted mean? I've seen it a lot in terms of villagers but I don't understand what its referring to. Could someone explain :)

It means you haven't given your villager any gifts they can place in their home or wear, or given them anything at all.

i think it means that the player hasn’t given the villager anything. some people don’t like gifted villagers because it messes up their house decor and outfit.

It means they have never been given furniture items or clothing. These things can never be removed from a villagers inventory.

So they might have strange items in their house or wear ugly shirts if they have been gifted.

A villager still counts as ungifted if you have given them things like fruit or fossils though as these do not enter a villagers inventory.

When it comes to villager trading, I will personally only ever buy a villager if I know they are ungifted. If the seller does not specify, or says they are gifted, I will not take their villager.

What they all said. It's all a matter of preference on how you want to get villagers. Personally, I don't mind gifted villagers. They're unique. And it offers up a different version of that villager than you would be able to get otherwise. I think that's cool. I can understand if you really want a villager for their particular outfit and home decor/theme, but usually I think that's kind of bland and boring.

It means

1. You have never gifted them anything aside from fruit or fossils

2. You have never sold them any of your items.

3. You have never given them a delivery (wrong address, borrowed, apology, friendship, etc) on behalf of another villager

I can't remember if these count, but I'll include them just in case.

4. Have never given them a catchphrase
5. Have never given them a greeting

Ungifted in villager trading means that if a villager is moving out, they are "vanilla" meaning to say they don't have anything in their home that ruins their interior and they don't have any clothes that the player gave them. I always thought this was really ridiculous because one time I was giving away Apollo and this person complained to me that he was only wearing clothing when I never gave him clothes. Turns out probably one of the villagers gave him clothing when they got into a fight and even though I told them I didn't want to gift it to them, they somehow did.

I really don't know how villagers end up getting gifts to each other because even if you say no I had some occasions where villagers get stuff from others without talking to you. I don't know if this is a rare thing that happens, but people are pretty strict when comes to ungifted villagers even as far as the catchphrase you gave them. So really pay attention to these things before you even decide to trade away a villager to someone else who wants an "Ungifted" version of them.

I have to say as someone who used to do villager trading myself last year, it is a pain trying to make sure that the villager you have, has their original interior, their original clothing, and original catchphrase. I mean I don't let any of this bother me, but I do understand if someone where to gift a villager too many bugs and fish, but I don't really care much about the clothing or catchphrase. If I problem with that I would just talk to Isabelle to get rid of that.

If you didn't get the villagers through random move in (queue) or from adoption, it's possible people online came over your time and gave the villager gifts for their birthday. You may also just be seeing them in their hobby clothes.

That may explain it. Now I remember why I never do auto plot fills on the island. It still is strange how the game randomly picks whatever villager was recently moved out and if you have bad RNG you end up getting a villager who has so much bugs and fish inside their homes. That happened to me last year when I got Beardo and his home was just cluttered with bugs and fish.

Also I never knew that was even a thing that you people can give villagers on your island gifts on their birthday. Sheesh I've played this game for so long and I never knew you could do that.

I'm not 100% sure if this is true to be honest. I read the official birthday thread under the Airport board, it was stated in the rules not to gift another players villagers anything for their birthday without permission. The game was still new at this point, so I don't know if that was said as a fact or based on the assumption you could.

Hmmm....I will probably have to test this the next time a villager's birthday is on one of my islands and I will have to visit it as my other self to see if it happens. I am not sure if it has to do with Randoms or if people who are your friends are allowed to give gifts to villagers for their birthday, but I will have to probably see for myself if its true or not, but it is interesting nevertheless.

It is true.
I was trading between my 2 islands one time and decided to go say hi to cyd who used to live on my main island but I moved him to my second island.
I did not realise it was his birthday. I spoke to him anyway and he asked me for a gift. I was pretty shocked at that. Thankfully I did have a wrapped fossil on me
