I'd say ACNL is already pretty thorough for the USA, in terms of holidays and events, altho our region is North America and it doesnt seem like therees anything unique to Canada or Mexico in the game. there are a few things that could be added that I think would be pretty cool:

--something for our region for lunar new year; maybe a Chinese dragon parades around your town (or dragon standee in the Plaza), and Isabelle hands out dumplings or something.

--Cinco de Mayo is widely celebrated as a cultural festival in the USA, altho i'm not sure they could do anything for this without it being stereotypical/insensitive to Mexico (as I'm sure the stuff in the USA is viewed as such by our neighbors: wearing sombreros, handing out Mexican food, mariachi music). i think this event is more lowkey in Mexico.

--what could be added for Canadians? Canada Day? call it maple leaf day or something?

--Oktoberfest is widely celebrated in the USA, there could be lederhosen, and pretzels, and accordion or oompa tuba/horn.

--Dia de Muertos, the day after Halloween, big event in Mexico. purpose is to remember deceased loved ones. not sure maybe they could call it skeleton day or something, or All Saints Day? i guess the theme of this wouldnt work, i dunno?

anyway, what additions do you think would be cool?

I agree with the Dia de los Muertos day - I love the visuals and costumes from that holiday! That would be so awesome if Isabelle gave you a cool mask and you could buy and outfit from Able Sisters.

We have Festivale in February, so there's no need for Cinco de Mayo. (Well, not for Americans, anyway.) I don't know anyone who celebrates it, but that might vary by state. No one around here really cares about Saint Patrick's Day, either. But, yeah, I'm satisfied with all of the in-game holidays we have. And since there's a fireworks show every Sunday in August, I don't really care about not having a July 4 celebration.

hmm, i never associated the Festivale with Mexico, i viewed it as Brazilian Carnival / New Orleans Mardi Gras. I wonder if Mexican players see it as a nod to celebrations in their country? I never thought of that.

Pav? seems like a latin guy to me because of his name, his Samba dancing and the way he talks. So while it's not exactly the same as Cinco de Mayo, I think it's close enough that the game wouldn't make another similar holiday or event.

I agree with you, Festivale seems more linked to Mardi Gras than anything Mexican... A lot of people celebrate St. Patrick's Day & Cinco De Mayo in California

I bet there are a ton of folk festivals in Europe that have been omitted from Animal Crossing. I know one holiday I always heard about as having strong European ties but that isn't celebrated to my knowledge in the americas is May Day, with a Maypole celebration etc. Is that still a thing in Europe these days??

so on ANIMAL CROSSING WIKI

Pav? (ベルリーナ,, Berurīna?) is a peacock character that appears in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. His name may originate from the word pav?o, which is Portuguese for peacock. He appears on the day of Festivale's as its special character.

Appearance
Pav? is a peacock of a green, yellow, and turquoise coloration. Pav? appears to have a Portuguese accent or to be of Brazilian origin.

so I guess it's Carnival then, which makes sense because of the feathers

I'd like to have something special in place for St George's day. And st David's for that matter, it seemed to just pass as another day in the game which was a shame. It could have worked like we could have special items themed around Wales. Maybe a Welsh dragon ornament or something. Half of my family is Welsh though so I'm a bit biased ;)

and St Andrew's Day for Scotland. those would all be cool. but i guess they only issued ACNL version for all of Europe right? maybe next game they can issue a UK version.

hey, i know, they could add some country-specific items via DLC on the particular holiday!

(For some reason, my previous post isn't showing up...)

I almost thought of St George's Day, yet I saw the concern of accounting for the rest of Europe.

However, that didn't stop Tomodachi Life acknowledging Bonfire Night on the 5th November, which while an iconic day for people in the UK is kind of made redundant by the Fireworks Festival in AC. French players of TL also saw similar decorations around for Bastille Day on July 14th and I don't think that really has a big AC equivalent.

Still, if Tomodachi Life can program certain events to get acknowledged depending on what language you're playing the game in, that sounds like something that can also be possible for Animal Crossing as well - no need for country-specific releases, really. :)

i'd absolutely love love love it if they brought back the sports fair from population:growing !!!!!! that was one of, if not my most favorite events. ;u; )/

Ohh a Lazy Day would sound nice! I would imagine villagers sleeping in and there's special tricks/pranks and privilages you have on that day, all villagers would be dressed sloppy in pajamas xD just a thought lol

I think it would be great if they added "Maple Leaf Day" for Canadians like you suggested! I would love that. Maybe they could also add "Family Day" as just a small event.

Also, this doesn't have to do with region, but I've always thought it would be so cool if there was a special celebration on the anniversary of when you created your town! Like something in the town square area where all of the villagers gather around and there's some sort of special event. That would be really special in my opinion.

All the holidays. Like the ones that are only around in certain versions of the game, why can't I celebrate a Korean or Japanese holiday in a US game? That could be really fun and educational to boot.
Wouldn't it be better to allow for the sharing of cultures and help stir up interest in other countries holidays? Like we could share thanksgiving and why we celebrate it with others, and they could share theirs with us? I think it'd be really interesting.

I'm not too sure those you mentioned would be in there given their association with alcohol and this is aimed at children (at least in the US). Think about other holidays like putting back the 4th of July fireworks (first had it), they could do something around memorial day like saying "remembering day" for those mayors of past towns who moved in- Tortimer primarily! There's also the real Left Hander's Day (August 13), so why not put that in the game? Celebrate all lefties (Isabelle's a lefty, just like every other animal who signs their name- look which paw/wing/hoof/etc they sign with). I'm not sure how Veteran's Day could be incorporated. Maybe with Honor Day, by honoring past mayors. Remember, this is aimed at kids here, so maybe they can do something with those, but I'm doubtful given their military connections in the US.

I like for the new ac game to mabye bring back some the old holidays that was celebrated in past games and also I know this may be off topic but it would be cool if the they brought back the garage sale too.
